I rushed to get my stuff packed up as I watched the skies and I was in my car right about to exit the grounds when the hail started pelting my vehicle. I felt bad for the folkies running to and fro, and was very thankful I got packed up in time to bolt.

Big stuff survived, but we had to ditch a lot because there wasn't enough room in my dad's truck for it all. Our car was at the bottom in the parking lots and because we loaded as much as possible into Dad's truck, the 2 passengers he came with plus one more we picked up there had to ride in the car with us. Need to replace all tarps and chairs, our collapsible cooler, and a few other little things.

The 6 of us weathered the storm in a canopy at the campsite, all of us clutching the fabric so it wouldn't blow away. I'm amazed tthe canopy and our tent made it, and stayed dry inside. We hadn't heard any of the warnings from down below, so I don't think we were REALLY aware of the danger we were in. Dad was getting really annoyed/worried, but the rest of us had our chins up, were polishing off our munchies and singing.

We don't think Dad will be back for the entire fest next year. :)

all that we had left up, besides tents, at the GFP, was a 10x10 instant up canopy - the kind that is so vulnerable to high winds. it is now somewhere up in tree on the 10 acre field, twisted and broken. after it went i ran to my tent whoch looked destroyed - it was absolutely flat. but it was intact and holding, and when the gust let up, it popped back up. i got inside and leaned forward at a 30 degree angle with arms outstretched and palms aganst the side wall holing the tent upright. one gust was so strong it literally knocked me over backward onto my air mattress. but i - and the tent - survived.

fortunately for shantytowne, we had a meteorologist amongst us who had live radar on his cell phone. he told us early in the morning that there was some nasty stuff coming. so most of our camp was struck before the storm hit. bill and I basically hit the bottom of the hill and the exit as soon as it started to hail.

Budgiedome made it through. A little wet, but no worse for the wear. My tent was fine (damn, I love Eureka Timberline tents.) A tiny bit of moisture flew in through the back window, but I couldn't see any puddles, just a little dampness on the air mattress edge. The only losses are my boots, which was losing the sole on the right shoe. Tevas might also go if I can't clean them effectively.

Tevas go through the washer very well, as do most sneakers. Most people don't know this. :)

As you know my Tevas died. I'm still in mourning.

Whereas my Tevas tried to kill my feet. Maybe they were trying to avenge the death of their kin.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 6 months ago
Then they should have tried to kill the mud not your feet.
A girl named Becca Back · 16 years, 6 months ago
Well, clearly their anger was misguided. But they don't have a very large space in which to store a brain, after all.

many have died because of the wrath of your feet...
A girl named Becca Back · 16 years, 6 months ago
Are you saying my feet stink?
nate... Back · 16 years, 6 months ago
No, you said that..... in reference to the fact that your Tevas were attacking you because your feet had killed many of their kinfolk.
Misch Back · 16 years, 6 months ago
Like a dangerous pork tenderloin
A girl named Becca Back · 16 years, 6 months ago
No no...I meant they were just lashing out because they were upset about the death of Gordon's Tevas. Being inanimate, there's only so far out they can lash, you see, and I happened to throw my feet in their way. So they attacked. I've got the scars to prove it.

Well, it's afternoon now.

This is the best video I've seen of the storm.
