Halloween

   Discussion: Halloween

What are you doing for Halloween? What is your costume? I have no plans so I'll guess I'll stay home and make believe I'm giving out candy. Hardly anyone comes to my house. If I'm lucky I'll get two trick or treaters. I'll just have to finish that candy myself. I want to teach in costume. I have three options all of which I have in the house.
  1. The pirate gear; a headscarf, eye patch, cutlass, and hook.
  2. A Keffiyeh, Arab headdress, that I got in Israel. Any suggestions on what I might add to it?
  3. Coal miner. I have a hardhat and a headlamp I can attach to it. If I wear jeans, a work shirt, and boots, that should complete the picture. Does anyone know a good way to blacken my face so it looks covered with coal dust?

When I was a kid, one year I was a Bum.  My mom burned a piece of cork and used the black ashy end of it to smudge on my face.  I remember it looking pretty cool, and I don't remember a stinkiness.  :)

I know that trick! Maybe I can find a cork someplace in the house.

A friend and I are dressing up as two obscure goth comic book characters and walking around Salem for the evening. Probably having a candlelight picnic somewhere (this happens in the comic).

I like the coal miner idea.  Eyeshadow should do fine, too, and doesn't need fire.

And you know that I always use eye shadow so I'd have some around? :-)

you can get adequate eyeshadow at a dollar store :P

I ended up getting cheap closeout Halloween makeup at the drug store on the way to school. It cost be a couple of bucks and the greasepaint worked great. I just have to remember that I have it for next year. I got a complete makeup kit.

If I had posted this earlier and had time I'd have taken your advice.
