well, one could argue that the savings on not paying GST would still be worth crossing the border.  I don't think that Torontonians will be coming to Buffalo anytime soon because of the price of gas, but Canadians who live within maybe an hour of the border might still be able to justify the drive.

I was actually thinking about it in terms of being an American shopping in Canada.  I remember past Frucons where we would go out to eat, and we'd eat like kings with our powerful American $$$.  Even Mike Ford talked about spending out inflated American $$$ as we got stranded in Toronto during a gigantic Northeast snowstorm during Frucon 6 "The Frucon that wouldn't end". 

Now if you go to Canada, your USD won't buy jack squat.

I remember the days when the change in my pocket could buy Manitoba. I bet it would cost at least a couple of bucks now.

Don't be ridiculous - no one would go to Canada to buy jack-squat . . . their few active jack-squat mines yield a product of medium-quality at best.  Generally, the Canadian jack-squat sector relies on imports from Finland and Guam.

You should really know better than to support the Sierra Leone jack-squat trade.  The instability of that area is well-documented & you know the profits from the jack-squat mines are used to support a corrupt government.  Support Fair Trade jack-squat & know your money is going straight to the miners themselves! 

FWIW, I prefer my jack-squat from the coast of Burkina Faso.
