What are some of your favorite covers? I'm talking about examples where an artist really makes someone else's song their own, rather than just re-recording it.
One of my favorites recently has been Cake's "I Will Survive." And almost all everything off Ten Thousand Mornings (although I'll always prefer the original of "Caleb Meyer").
P.S. If you say any cover of "Big Yellow Taxi" I'm kicking you out of this thread. Don't tell me it can't be done. I'll find a way.
I like the Scissor Sisters' take on "Comfortably Numb", taking a very dark-sounding piece, and transforming it into an infectiously dancey song. It pays respect to Pink Floyd, yet brings out the covering band's unique auditory flavour.
i think that the guess who really did a good job with jimi Hendrix's american woman, because I can only imagine how hard it must be to do a cover of any song by jimi hendrix and have people like it as much as the original.
