Music has the power to affect our mood. There have been times where a song has dramatically changed the way I was feeling. I often put on a cd to make me feel better to cope with feelign bad. What works the best though is just happening to hear the right song by chance on the radio. Yesterday it was Bob Marley's Three Little Birds. Hearing it allowed me to not be miserable the rest of the evening. Hearing Zachary Richard singing Iko Iko brought me out of a month long depression.
What songs have helped you in your time of need? Has a song every brought you down and made you depressed?
I could write a book on this Gordon. :) I will limit myself at this moment though. One song that has helped me through difficult times is Barry Manilow's All the Time . It's a wonderful thing when you find a song that speaks to you. The songs themselves rarely make me depressed unless they are actually about something depressing, like Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks. Usually, the thing that depresses me is a personal memory attached to the song. One such song is Blackbird by the Beatles. It always reminds me of the death of someone I cared about.
I almost cried the first time I heard O My Brother by Eddie From Ohio.
The first time I listened to "Scenes From A Memory" by Dream Theater, I was driving to New Haven on the way to a TMBG show. When I got to the end of the CD, what I heard almost made me drive off the road. You must first create an account to post.
