Eponomous Songs

   Discussion: Eponomous Songs
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 18 years, 8 months ago
Last night I saw Sean Altman and when he sang his song S-E-A-N I started to think of other musicians and band that have written songs that introduce themselves like that. I know there are more but the only other ones I can come up with are Bo Diddley and The Roches. The Roches song is not strictly eponomous, it is called We but the chorus is "We are Maggie and Terre, and Suzzy..." What other ones can you think of?

I knew I missed some really obvious ones.

Also there's a bunch of rap that's very self-referential, don't know how much of it delves into full on eponymous intro territory, but there definitely are some.

And that stupid backstreet boys song about how backstreet's back and all that...not that we'd ever seen them before or wanted them back...etc. :)

Sure and you just know the song for purposes of research, the same reason you have all their CDs, including the imports and the bootlegs.

'n sync has one of those, too. when i used to work in a mall, the forever 21 next door would often play the two of them back to back.

When I first read the topic, I thought it said "Enormous Songs," and I thought, "Well, there's a lot of Bob Dylan songs that are really long . . ."

But here's some from me:
Alva Star ("Alva Star")
Counting Crows ("A Murder of One")
Queen ("Killer Queen")
The Beastie Boys ("Every Beastie Boys song EVER.")

And as my closing thesis . . .
Moxy Fruvous ("King of Spain - Live" . . . "And now I'm jamming with Moxy Fruvous.")

What about "Way To Go, Murray?" It's about Murray and Dave.
