I look at the Astronomy Pic of the Day every day but this one was so spectacular I wanted to share. Volcano and Aurora in Iceland How about seeing that live?

I dunno, I've heard their live show isn't nearly as good as the recorded stuff.

you, sir, are deprived of the greatness that is Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. WYLD STALLYNS is the name of their band. you are also missing out on the wonderful type-casting breakout of one Keanu Reeves!

What does any of this have to do with a photo of a volcano and an aurora?

Never much chance of me being the normal one.
Brian Dinsky · 19 years, 1 month ago

Paul the KOA · 19 years, 1 month ago
Wow. What's the cause of the big green cloud?
Paul Back · 19 years, 1 month ago
It is an Aurora which according to the web is "A luminous atmospheric phenomenon appearing as streamers or bands of light sometimes visible in the night sky in northern or southern regions of the earth. It is thought to be caused by charged particles from the sun entering the earth's magnetic field and stimulating molecules in the atmosphere."

Below the picture there is a link which takes you to a website all about auroras which would probably explain it better.

Danke

What makes the pic art is the composition. I love the way that the aurora seems to be emitted from a cloud that is shaped like a volcano, echoing the actual volcano.
