KIng of Spain

   Discussion: KIng of Spain
Paul · 19 years, 3 months ago

How many versions of King of Spain did Fruvous record?

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
On official Fruvous CDs?

Indie Tape/Bargainville version, and two on Live Noise.

I fully expect to be corrected.
Paul Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Yes official Moxy Fruvous releases. I am guessing there must be dozens of bootleg versions.
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
waaaaay beyond mere "dozens". :)

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
every year there was at least a gross.
Bender Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
See, I never really got the appeal of owning a whole bunch of taped shows.

They pretty much played the same songs every time and a lot of the time the banter didn't really make sense if you weren't there.
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
yeah, I kinda agree with that.

I mostly listen to the shows I *was* at....

Bender Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
*That* I can grok.

Sometimes I wish I had a copy of the Ocean City 1999 show. That show meant a lot to me.

It was my very first show, my inflatable aliens made it onstage, and I met Doug there.

But if you have the whole show a lot of the banter does make sense in reference to itself. Throughout a show it'll build on itself and reference earlier bits and it becomes an interesting whole. It'd be stupid out of context, one track, when you hadn't been there....but I think it still holds up when you have the whole show.

Also sometimes you weren't present at a particularly great version of a given song, even if it was played every night...it's nice to get ahold of that. Like out of a ton of versions of Sahara, to get one that had a particularly awesome intro jam.

I don't have a ton of shows myself...mostly just stuff I was at...but I can understand the appeal. :)

Ton of shows??? Shows you were at??? What's the difference? I'd bet a lot of people still active on the board were at 30+ shows at least, not that I want to start a pissing contest... That's why I know who nate and andrea are, and even what they look like... even if they live 10 hrs away from me.

Why do you think the banter doesn't make sense if you weren't there? All the bootlegs I've ever heard (I think I only ever owned 2 or 3) had HILARIOUS banter!
Bender Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Then maybe I just had bad luck with bootlegs. ;P
danced with Lazlo Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Or maybe I just had really good luck.

Half empty? Half full? ;)
Paul Back · 19 years, 3 months ago

this is totally off topic but I read your profile and I was just curious what is the best retail job in existence?

I've been in retail for 30 plus years and none have been great, and all but my current one have really been horrible, one step above slavery in generally degrading way.

Holiday Gift Boxes To Go are AWESOME.

Throwing in my 2 cents, Whole Foods is an amazing place to work as well.
Paul Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
the problem with bootlegs is once you put them in the blank cd case you can't tell what they are when they are stacked in a pile or in a cd case.
Bender Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
that's why you label them.
Paul Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I do label the cds but not the cases
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
You can label the cases too. Take some time once to work out the size of the text boxes you need then keep the template for new albums.
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
yeah... or do what I do... use up spare pieces of old labels... or the sticky labels that come in dat cases.... and hand write them.

I don't like to waste things.
I guess I inherited that.

same here. i started collecting tapes because it took me so long to get to see my first fruvous show, and i wanted to get as close as i could to experiencing them. while it's been a long time since i've listened to any of the live fruvous shows i collected, i can safely say that every show i own is different, and just about every one is full of funny banter.
Marylee · 19 years, 3 months ago
Being as I have never been to their shows...how do I hear more? I have tried to gather every version I can find out there on Limewire, but there really is so little.
Marylee · 19 years, 3 months ago

I answered my own question...Live Tape Trading. Chalk it up to alzheimers. :p

Forgiveness...forgiveness...forgiveness?

Any other suggestions?
