Play an instrument? |
Discussion:
Play an instrument?
We have a couple of accoustic guitars and an electric guitar in need of repair. I can only play a few chords. I got smart and bought a guitar tuner which makes what I can play sound better. Who knew guitars needed to be tuned regularly?
I found a used drumset for sale cheap in the paper, it was quite a bargain. However after a few weeks of trying I have discovered I lack any sense of rhythm. Someday I may take lessons. My wife is the musician in the family. She plays flute mostly, a little guitar and piano. She has a great singing voice too. instruments i play AND own - in order of earliest to latest:

Ooo, I like this thread.
I can play the guitar and the drums with reasonable amounts of skill. Generally, I can pick up any instrument and figure it out without much trouble, except perhaps the didgeridoo (sp?). And to perhaps take this question somewhat outside of the box, I'm pretty damn proficient at videogames that resemble instruments, i.e. Pop'n Music, Beatmania. This does not imply anything regarding DDR, as it were. That would be excersize. None of THAT, plzkthx. Pop'n Music is absolutely incredible, and seems to work out well for me as I am already heavily accustomed to the controller layout, and I'm sure most would agree that once you've got the rythym/harmony/melody thing down, it's a matter of conditioning yourself to eliminate the middleman between the brain and the music. whoops, work time.

I play the clarinet. I'm pretty good, as a matter of fact. Other than that, I noodle around on the piano, but I am teh suck at playing with two hands.
I'd really like to play the guitar, but I don't have the greatest track record with string instruments. Perhaps next year at camp.
I like playing it, only my band is frustrating. Because my work ethic does not pay off when there are people who never do anything.

I play a little bit of piano and a littler bit of guitar, though I don't tend to give either enough time to get good at it. I played flute in middle school but I hardly touch it these days. People tell me I'm a good singer, so I suppose I am (though I could certainly benefit from some lessons). I'm focusing on carving a niche with English Handbells, as hardly anyone else plays them (certainly not in the folk/rock/things-that-aren't-specifically-handbells circles) so I can fool everyone into thinking I'm really good at it.
handbells? you must be incredible! what are handbells like, tho?
I've been addicted ever since.
didn't you learn anything from DARE? addiction is bad. like drugs. *snorts at anyone learning anything at all from dare*

Is this "can play" or "do play"?
:) Cuz I played classical piano for many a year as a kid (7, I think?)... and I'm sure I could still pick it back up... but I never do. Ditto the sax. The only thing I play with any kind of regularity (and by that, I mean "every couple months") is guitar.

I am trained in the viola and accordion. I haven't picked up either since high school.
I can noodle on the piano. My real instruments are the kazoo and jew's harp. I've been playing them since I bought them because Jean Shepard played them on his show. The kazoo is the queen of instruments. I have a collection of them. I also own a collection of shaker instruments, a slide whistle. I'm probably forgetting some other silly ones. I have absolutely no rhythm yet I dream of playing the bodhron.
