Descriptions of Moxy Fruvous
I found this description of Fruvous in a list of band reviews on another artist's fansite.
When we saw them, I thought a more appropriate name for the group was "They Might Be They Might Be Giants, Only a Lot More Annoying." They're very talented musically and vocally, but I think their taste is, at its best, adolescent and provincial, and at its worst, cringeingly sophomoric. They're not anywhere near as funny as they think they are, and their musically stiff (though technically impressive) delivery does not go very far to make up for the artistic aridity of their material. I think they could really make a name for themselves doing kids' birthday parties and suburban JayCee meetings. Maybe Lions Club luncheons. Senior citizens' homes. Bus stops. Anywhere I won't be.
I find that hysterical. Part of what makes it so funny is that despite the fact that I totally disagree I know what he is talking about.
I think Josh should change the name of this site to "They Might Be Giants Only A Lot More Annoyingheads.com" aka TMBGOALMAHDC.
Have you come across any amusing descriptions of Fruvous?
Wow, this person likes using big words in an attempt to sound smart.

What's funny is that this person's opinion is directly opposite to mine in every way. I think (forgive my present tense) that they're somewhat talented musically and vocally, have terrific influences and are funniest when they aren't trying to be funny. Their performance are fluid and messy. But despite my great admiration for them, the terms "musically impressive" has me in fits of giggles.
Well, except for Dave. I'm impressed with Dave. But I'm just trying to figure out what band this person saw.
I'm agree with you and most of the other reviews on the site said basically that, not the greatest musicians but lots of fun.
I think they guys in Fruvous would be amused to hear themselves called "They Might Be Giants Only A Lot More Annoying."
I think DVN's goal is to be called that.
You keep leaving off the extra "They Might Be" which I think is crucial to the joke he's trying to make there. :)
no, dvn's goal is to be called "Four Middle-Aged Men."
Wasn't that "Ordinary Looking Middle-Aged Men?"
They are entitled to have more than one goal.
Another goal is to have Heather Graham's restraining order lifted.
Yeah, I agree with you 100%
They're not anywhere near as funny as they think they are

how's the toejam tasting, dinsky? :P
It's hard to bargle nautle zous with all these marbles in my mouth.
maybe they saw Motley Crue and got them confused? They do both have umlauts.
See I think they have oodles and scads of musical talent. Granted, I don't really remember what they were like live, but i've heard their live stuff, and i remember liking them. And their albums make me giddy. So . . . .:::;pbbbt::; to that person.
That article's a bit how i feel about the worms though. they are hit -or miss for me. and some of their sophomoric stuff is not really funny at all. just irritating.

Dave is the only musician's musician of the group.
As a whole, though, they are musically unimpressive from a technical standpoint.
It's the songwriting and stage presence that pulled them through, and did it ever.
I would say Murray is a musician's musician. I think he has the ability to play at a lot higher level than the group ever did.
Murray didn't feel that way. He referred to Dave and Mike as the musicians in the group.
Really? I always got the impression he kinda struggled. Like, when they'd take turns doing solos in jams or in disco bargainville he never came up with anything all that complex. I remember being particularly struck at one show (I think it was Amherst) where Tobey got up and seemed to rock the bass more than Murray ever did. Mind you, I'm a non-bassist and non-musician so it may be an erroneous perception... and I love Murray to pieces. I just never though he was a phenomenal musician.

I'm no musician either, but from what I understand, and can tell, his playing improved a lot over the years. I think he is now to a point where he's a pretty darn good bassist. Of course Chad and Chris T. always thought he was, and they know their stuff better than I, so there you go.
It seems to me that an act at the level of Great Big Sea could pick and choose replacement players, so I think that says something for Murray's playing.

there's a difference between being a musician and a Musician, though. that's what i was getting at.
tell me if I'm being obtuse.
Nope, I know exactly what you mean. Of course everyone in Fruvous is a musician, they all made a living playing music. That doesnt' make them Musicians though.
You aren't obtuse you are cute, or is that acute. Oh yeah, you are both.
she's obtuse and acute? does that make her a straight line?
No I think he meant she was cute and acute.
