Least depressing song ever

   Discussion: Least depressing song ever
Kris 'engaged' Bedient · 19 years, 10 months ago

What song would you say is the least depressing?

Maybe it's one where you can put it on when you are depressed and the song aleviates your blue mood. Maybe it's one that when it come on the car radio you just have to start car-dancing. Maybe it's some that you just love to sing at the top of your lungs in the shower.

So, what song is it for you?

My vote goes to either Kiss Off or Add It Up, both by the Violent Femmes.

:)

They ALWAYS make me feel better.... specifically the live versions off of the "Add It Up" cd.

Peter Mulvey - Out Here

yes. exactly. oh, and:

Erin McKeown - Slung-Lo

Edit: someone mentioned frvous songs... what 'bout KoS? or YWGTTM? that makes even *me* want to sing, and i *never* sing. :)
nate... Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
I'd shoot more for Blackbirds... or Little Cowboy.

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
I agree with Blackbirds...not so much Little Cowboy. I mean, it's not actively depressing, but it's not very.....un-depressing. *shrug*
nate... Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
I think it's a very liberating song.

In that sense, I find it to be uplifting.

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
well, if we're talking liberating, then how about Queen of Quiet? ;)
nate... Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
DEFINITELY agree!

:)
Misch Back · 19 years, 10 months ago
I disagree with Laika being included in your list.

I mean, lyrics:

Now I'm full grown, and I've a spacecraft of my own
But there you sit, still upon your Earthly throne
Hey darling, throw this space-pup a bone
Don't touch that dial, don't hang up that phone

But, maybe it's just my general relationship angst.

Now "Get In The Car", there's a non-depressing song.
Talcott Back · 19 years, 10 months ago
Yes, but it makes me undepressed ;-)

Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. Check out the lyrics. Black 47 does a kick ass cover of it.

I always say it is impossible to be depressed while listening to Iko Iko
dirty life & times Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
two-thirds of black 47's songs (see maria's wedding) make me grin & need to violently repress the urge to dance, the other third can bring me close to tears. in that good way.

my kinda band.

Hockey Monkey, by The Zambonis.

o/~All the scientists are running around
Looking for the monkey but he can't be found
'cause he's down by the pond playing hockey with the kids

And all the mothers are running around
Looking for their children but they can't be found
'cause they're down by the pond playing hockey with the monkey

And its 1, 2, 3, the kids love the monkey and
4, 5, 6, the monkey's got a hockey stick
7, 8, 9, havin a good time, yeah!

National guard is running around
Looking for the monkey but he can't be found
'cause he's down by the pond playin hockey with the kids

And all the teachers are running around
Looking for the children but they can't be found
'cause they're down by the pond playin hockey with the monkey

And its 1, 2, 3, the kids love the monkey and
4, 5, 6, the monkey's got a hockey stick
7, 8, 9, havin a good time, yeah!

"It's Only Natural" by Crowded House. Specifically the opening lines.

Ice will melt, water will boil
You and I will shake off this mortal coil
It's bigger than us
We don't have to worry about it

Makes me feel very carefree and inspired.
Tori Rose · 19 years, 9 months ago
"Feelin Good" as performed by Michael Buble, though its actually from The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd"
"Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" - Tom Lehrer
"Viagra in the Waters" - Camille West
"The Girl In The Pink Canoe" - Big Rude Jake

But the one song that's guaranteed to always make me smile and bop around (that isnt Fruvous related, cause most of theirs do) is:

"Higher and Higher" - Jackie Wilson

Its the song that's played during the credits for Death To Smoochy in case you were unsure.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
Yay for Tom Lehrer!
It's not against any religion,
To want to poison a pigeon...

Tom was a math professor. When I first joined the Mathematical Association of America the first thing I did was look through the directory for Tom's phone number and address.
hkath Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
I love his song about New Math. It confuses me entirely but I love it :)
lawrence Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
well, it's the idea that's the important thing. :)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 9 months ago
As you probably won't find suprprising I've done New Math in my classes. I do it whenever I teach base conversion. Don't be alarmed, I don't actually sing. I play the song and do the math problem on the board and sort of dance around like a crazy person. I love it when the students start off all jaded and act blase about it then end up laughing out loud.

Tori Rose · 19 years, 9 months ago
Yeah, he's definately one of my Lyric Heroes. I have to do a cabaret as part of my curriculum up at school, and Poisoning Pigeons in the Park is defiantely in it. Gotta honor the man.

OOOO! I get to say it. "The reply button is your friend :-)"
