Hey there!

Just joined the forum after a long time lurking.

I went to DSL this week and last night gave BitTorent a whirl, downloading this show.

Thanks!

BTW- What's the usual time limit folks in this group are keeping stuff available? I have a small (40G) harddrive and I'm discovering that its quickly filling up!

Firstly, Staples will have a 160 gb hard drive for $70 out the door starting tomorrow. Best Buy has one for $40 after a ton of rebates if you don't mind lending your money to them for about 6 months.

Secondly, as a seeder, I can't comment on what others do, but I try to keep the last 5 shows or so on my hard drive to help with reseed requests if there are any. After that, they get archived on DVD (or CD) and put into a folder. I usually don't reseed the show after that, and hope that someone else still has the show on their hard drive.

Also, please try to stay connected to the torrent as long as possible, even after your download has completed. It'll help others downloading the show. Trying to upload the same amount that you download is a good ratio to aim for (a ratio of 1.0)

Lastly, if you enjoy a show, please post a message letting the seeder know you liked the show. I don't seed the shows for glory, money, or any other sort of gratification, but it's nice to know that people are enjoying the shows. It takes 3+ hrs to transfer the show from DAT tape, edit it, track it out, encode it, and torrent it. Before bit torrent, the best way to get shows was trading via snail mail. Most fruvous tapers were horrible traders (myself included) and the shows didn't get shared much. Taking 5 secs to post, "thanks for the show" is a lot less time than was required to get shows before the bit torrent revolution.

I've recently been able to borrow tapes from another taper, as many of the shows from before 1999 haven't been widely distributed. Keep an eye out for a few more 1997 shows, and a bunch from 1998. If anyone has a cassette deck with a line-out connection they're willing to lend me, let me know, as I also have about 50 master and low-generation cassettes to transfer. Otherwise, I'll just use a boom-box and headphone out. Thanks!

I just wanted to say thanks as well, I've torrented a few shows, and they've all been incredible for me to hear. You're contributing to filling up my even tinier hard drive, a mere 20 gig. *pauses for scoffs*

The shows are great, good quality, and just plain fun to listen to. Keep it up, I really love them! :)

Forgive my ignorance, but is an external hard drive fairly easy to set up? Because, like, I think a new hard drive would quell my desire for a new machine for at least another year :)

An external hard drive is easy to use if you don't plan to boot from it. If you do, it's only slightly harder. I'd recommend one with a USB 2.0 or firewire connection, as USB 1.1 can be kinda slow

Internal ones are also very very easy to add. I can help you.

yeah, VERY easy.

I walked my bro-in-law through it over the phone. :)
