SMAF 2005

As the official unofficial New York area/Fruhead promoter for SMAF I figured it was time to list their 2005 lineup. It is amazing.



The Festival is May 6-8. It is northern MD, not far from 95. It takes me 3 hours to get there from Northeast Queens.

More reasons to go to SMAF

• Did you notice Dar on the list?
  
• If you don't like to camp there are cabins.
  
• There are real bathrooms.
  
• The festival is far more intimate than FRFF. After the evening set we went the musician's song circle. Anyone can join in and sing.
  
• The Budgiedomewill be there.

Well...there are folk festivals. Where dirty hippies like us hang out in fields and stuff and watch performances and listen to music. And there are camps full of fruheads. And sometimes in these camps you find the budgiedome...which is a domey thing for hanging and singing and seeing more performances and...stuff. :)

Yes...though they look nothing alike, but that's where the name stems from, yes. :)

You know, you really should look into making them look alike. i mean, who wouldn't want to hang out under a giant red dog thing with a beak. tell me who wouldn't. i'd like to know.

Well, I believe they do have a budgie flag that gets raised during the flag raising. :) I must admit ignorance since I don't camp at the dome.

I had to volunteer at WFUV today then see my mother in the hospital then make up a test. I just got online and fixed it.

Dar will be there, Cady will be there, Rachael Davis will be there, Full Frontal Folk will be there, Urban Folk Collective will be there and they ROCKED last year ...

This festival is a little gem. It's only about an hour outside DC, (day-tripping distance, really) about 1.5 hours from Philadelphia, about 3 hours from NYC. It's supposed to be a nice weekend weather-wise. Also? Free donuts and coffee Sunday morning! :D

Seriously, if you've got the weekend free check it out. I don't think anyone here would regret it.

I love the concept.... AND the time of year..... I'd totally be into checking this out.

It's just a pity that there isn't a single act that I'm interested in. :(

I sure am. Jeremy is very excited, we didn't get to see some big playground in the woods last year, so we have been waiting a year to see it, and he can't wait. I pack the car tomorrow night.

I'm bringing my mom this year -- odd little mother's day present, eh? :) And Andrew and Steve too, though they'll be an hour or so behind me.

wow, you will be double the people from last year. are you tenting or cabining? I haven't met your boy or your mom, yet. I have a final that gets out around 2. Jeremy and I will probably leave right when he gets off the bus at 4, so it's looking like 6:30ish before we arrive.

mom and i are cabining, the guys are tenting (so is Gordon, apparently.) my 68-year-old mom is not ready to sleep on the ground again, after an approximately 20-year span in which she hasn't camped. :)

no, I'll be at falcon ridge, though Jeremy won't be. but you have to wait over 2 months!
