pet support group?
Sorry Nate. :(
It's such a body blow. And we know it's coming, we know we'll outlive them...but to not have pets and love them is just unthinkable. *hugs* You were part of making a happy life in a good home.
i've lost a few cats, but only two came as a complete shock -- Remy, who got very sick very suddenly, and Cristabel who consumed antifreeze last fall. Still makes me shudder. and even when it's not a shock, it really hurts.

My dog committed suicide.
Its not funny. But I can't help chuckling when I tell people.
I came home from work one night at 11 after a long day of canvassing for NYPIRG (boo) in Westchester County (BOO!) and mom gave me some soup for dinner and told me "Oh, by the way, Buster died."
This our dog whom we'd had since I was 5. "Oh..." She told me that he'd fallen from the balcony on the second floor of our house. He was pretty much blind so she reasoned he had wandered to the edge not realizing w here he was going. But there was a rail at the edge of that balcony. And there were planters with vegetables growing in them blocking the way. And as blind and senile as Buster got, he didn't bump into walls... he knew where he was going in the house. Only explanation (without implicating my mother of course) is that he jumped. So... yeah.

"...Everyone knows
give it some time the clouds will clear the sky..." -Erin McKeown "Slung-Lo" ...something i heard just now. thought it might help, if only just a little.
Brent and I are so sorry to hear about so many losing their precious pets. Animals are wonderful and loving creatures and it's heartbreaking to lose them. We have an (almost) 15 year old dog that we love and can't imagine being without him. You all have our most sincere sympathy.
