Well, I just went out and bought a pair of Sennheiser-driven cardioid microphones, a battery box with 7 position bass roll-off, and a Sharp IM-DR420H(S) mindisc player/recorder. I guessI just didn't think the numbers on my credit card bill were high enough, and besides, I've been wanting to get in to this for awhile.
I have one question... and one I'm glad I can ask all the peoplethat inspired me to start recording. When I bought the minidisc player, I was excited that it could transfer to and from my computer digitally using USB. I recorded my band practice and a ska showyesterday, and today I was all excited to hook up to my computer. I found out the hard way that SCMS won't let me do this. I was slightly furious, considering that half the stuff they weren't letting me copy I helped to write and perform. Does anyone know a way around this besides using the mic input on my computer? Possibly some 3rd party software instead of this BeatJam thing they have me using....
Right now I'm just clipping the mics to a pair of glasses and sitting still, but I plan to get a little rack so I can get the mics a little above the crowd. Does anyone have any other suggestions for me starting out? Right now I'm just plugging in, getting my levels and recording. Expect to see some torrents in the future when I get a handle on this.
Thanks to all the wise out there!
