This *had* to be a Gordonpoll. We discussed this the last time I saw him.

Geez. Does anyone write polls other than Mr. Nash?

dwd, seriously. i'm sensing a monopoly here
stealthlori Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
No. He is an inexhaustible font of poll ideas, so why should we?
nate... · 20 years, 3 months ago
like I'd pass that up.

sheryls · 20 years, 3 months ago
not the FIRST one :P

ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Yeah, I would wait a bit...perhaps the third or fourth one in case the first few blow up into a ball of fire or something. What can I say, I'm a bit apprehensive of new technology that could potentially hurtle you to your death. :P
nate... Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Well, by "first commercial flight" that means "first one they take paying passengers on". As such, it would've gone through probably hundreds of test-flights to verify safety/etc.

So, yeah, it's not like it would be the first time the thing ever flew.

:)

Bender Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
I think the key word is "commercial". They want to make money, not lose it.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

I wouldn't want ot be on the first one, not because of safety fears, but I just don't think I'd enjoy the trip with the company I'd likely be keeping made up of twits for whom money is no object. :) I'd wanna wait until all the cool geeks who scrimped and saved to live a dream get tickets. :)

Heheh I know that's a stupid reason, it's just as soon as I read the poll I thought of all the rich showoff assholes who would probably be jostling to be on the first flight. And I just wouldn't enjoy the experience as much.

nate... Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Hrm.. that's a very interesting point...

Since the cost would be prohibitive, though, I was kinda taking this "money was no object" thing as "you are offerred free tickets"... so I was like, "hell yeah! I wouldn't turn them down!"

Especially since I know there's probably no way I could afford it otherwise.

Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
See, and I took "money is no object" to mean that I myself was rich enough to afford it and could choose my own time. :)
nate... Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Well, see, commercial spaceflight is far more likely than me being that rich.

:D

dave "buh" · 20 years, 3 months ago
i'm done with flying in coach
nate... Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
business class is SO amazingly much more, though.... I was shocked.

Shocked!

dave "buh" Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
depends. I'm going to Puerto Rico in december in bidness class on continental for less than I paid to go last year same time on American in coach.
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 20 years, 3 months ago
I'll go, who wants to pay for my ticket?

I just had a thought, think of how many frequent flyer miles you can rack up when they get them going into orbit.
lawrence · 20 years, 3 months ago
it's hard enough to get me on an airplane. I hate flying.
George E. Nowik · 20 years, 3 months ago
hell. yes.

stealthlori · 20 years, 3 months ago
... until the hoopla died down a bit and I could take a flight without having to dodge the press or the fangeek crowd. :D

(This incidentally is the same reason I don't go to movies the first weekend they're out, or stand in line at midnight for Harry Potter book releases.)
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

I hate hoopla. I recently broke rank and actually got the Shrek2 DVD the first day it came out, but that's only because I had it on reserve.

Sometimes, if something has too much hoopla surrounding it, I'll make a point to ignore it for a long time, just to show how cool I am that I don't need to succumb to it's influence. There are still movies from last year that I wanted to see last year that I haven't seen yet because of all the hype.

I wouldn't want to go on the space flight unless maybe it was a routine thing, and maybe not even then, just to be the rare person notto have done it.

Bender Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
but would you pass up on an experience like that just to be able to say that you haven't done it?
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
If someone handed me an agenda and said to show up at this time and place, I would be there.
Nik Chaikin · 20 years, 3 months ago
To boldly go where no trekie has gone before.
nate... Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
like, outside their mom's house?

;D

Wintress Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
no no: outside their GIRLFRIEND'S house....
iPauley Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Into their Girlfriend's house would be a shock in and of itself. :-P

You MUST be joking.

Bender Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
I was thinking more like outside their mom's basement.
