There are lots of people here who have lots of practical knowledge so I'm starting this forum to help us tap this resource Now here's my practical problem. I just got a message that my Mozilla address book was corrupted. It was saved under a different name and a new address book created? It didn't tell where the original was stored or if there were any way of recovering the addresses. Does anyone know where it is or how to recover it? How can I save a copy of my book so I can transfer it to another computer?

Okay... if it's corrupted, you're probably PSOL. But, if it's saved anywhere, it's saved in the applicaitons data directory.

For windows, open up an "Explorer" window. In the address bar, then look in the directory
Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/*random foldername*/bookmarks.bak

You can always copy this file and drop it into the profile folder on another computer. Even a different platform (like Mac or Linux)

In my experience, if you don't want to do anything too hip or needing maintenance, get some layers. Adds variety and maturity but doesn't ask a lot of you in return. It's especially beneficial for thick manes of hair, I think, because it thins out the brush.

This coming from a girl who can't be bothered to go to a salon and just hacks off her hair randomly when she's grumpy. Heee. :)

you cant beat a reverse mohawk with a comb-over preferably dyed some strange colour but I'll leave that one to you. :-)

Is there an easy (read: useless girl like me could do it) way to replace the plug/cord on a vacuum cleaner? The vacuum itself is perfectly fine but the prongs for the plug have gotten all loose and broken and for a while you had to wiggle it a lot to get the thing to work and now it won't work no matter what I wiggle.

I don't want to buy a whole new vacuum over an easy fix but I don't know how. Sigh.

Yes there is and the only tool you need is a wire cutter. They sell replacement plugs at the hardware store. You cut off the plug then simply insert it into the replacement plug. You don't have to connect any wires even.

Well I never saw any like you described...I had to connect wires. But you gave me the confidence to try and it worked and I can now vacuum. Yaaay! :) A $2 part and free labor sure beats buying a new vacuum or even just paying to get it fixed. :) I feel so butch!

I'm always afraid though....that maybe something can be fixed...but my messing around trying to do it myself breaks it more so it *can't* be fixed. And then it's all my fault. :)

Hey, if I didn't feel that way I wouldn't have needed the advise. I do know my limitations, I will not perform neurosurgery unless it will be really really expensive to hire someone else to do it.
