Regretting votes

Have you ever regretted a vote you cast? In 1980 I voted for Anderson. I wish I hadn't. I was disenchanted with Carter but I really do doubt that Anderson would have been better. Even if he would have been he had no chance and the important thing should have been not having Reagan win. It really was a case of my wanting to cast a protest vote and not voting for the best interests of the country. In the end it didn't make a difference as Carter won New York anyway but if Anderson hadn't run there is a good chance Reagan wouldn't have won.
The other vote I regret is a vote I didn't make. When I turned 18 it was an off year, no candidates were up for election. There was the vote for on the Equal Rights Amendment. I was out of town in college and never got around to getting my abstentee ballot. I probably wouldn't have voted against it. I'm not sure what I'd do now. I'm all for what it is designed to do but I don't think it would actually accomlish anything in practical terms and I'm always afraid of amending the constitution on non structual issues. I don't want people to get the idea that is easy. I'm afraid of the kinds of things that could pass. Things like the anti-gay marriage or anti-flagburning amendments.
