Poll: Do you have a GMail account yet?

I just don't get it. What's the point of the GMail insanity? It's mostly geeks who already have real mail accounts, and all of a sudden everyone's going nuts to get a webmail account just because it has lots of space? Hello, my hard drive has 120 GB of space and it works just fine, thank you. Kudos to their marketing department, though. The invite system was a very clever way of creating a buzz out of nothing.

I'm perfectly happy with having "joshw" for my Yahoo! ID. :)

I'm going with Josh on this one.� This one.� My hotmail works fine, and if that ever runs out of space (I don't see it happening) I've still got two accounts I can use from my band's website.

it doesn't have obnoxious graphical ads all over the place, for one. the interface is clean and simple and extremely easy to use, unlike hotmail or yahoo.

I hate my yahoo account and am switching everythign over to gmail.

It's a useful solution to me until I can bother to install spam filters in my squirrelmail acct. So far my gmail account has become a repository for mailing lists and lj comments, although the latter could stand to have WAY better handling. (argh.)

I'm tired of hotmail, too - it's slow and the ads are annoying. I find it hilarious (and not too distracting), the text ads that gmail has been choosing for me so far. Ah. It's all good.

i hate hotmail and yahoo mail and want them to die.

once gmail starts handling lj comments better, i'll use my account more.

I can use it as my spam-catcher account.
I was using two different hotmail accounts for that purpose, but they're so saturated with spam now that I have to log in daily to clear them out, or I'll stop receiving mail that I *do* want (order confirmations, etc)

gmail is just cool. I barely ever use it, but I still love the fact that I have an email account with the greatest site in the world. (other than this one of course)

everything I've ever seen that Google has done has been incredible. I have no reason to believe that gmail will be any less spectacular than their search, image search, news archive, groups, sets, translations, etc.

whereas everything Microsoft has touched has turned to shit. there's no way hotmail could ever hope to compare to gmail.

Poor Hotmail . . . he'll be so disappointed.

I've already got my own name as a domain name, and a little more discretion than I had in college about where I give my email address... add an email client with built-in junk mail detection, and I'm good to go.

Yeah, on the surface it sounds evil, but I firmly believe that googles text ads are far more targeted to what I'm interested in and FAR less intrusive than banner ads.

I'm a big fan of google, and I think this is a great business model.

And those that are Hotmail and Yahoo fans...I have both accounts. One won't let me send large attachments and frequently chokes, and the other is so choc full of picture ads that I can't view my e-mail.

So let them scan my mail for key phrases and advertise to me in an innoccuous manner. That's win-win for me because knowing my habits I'm far more likely to click on a text ad than a banner, and I don't have anything to hide in my e-mail...even if I did, I have other, encrypted accounts.

I feel that gmail is going to be a great fit for me, though I'll probably use it as a supplemental e-mail client.

Given that that site is run by the google-watch whacko, I'm not too impressed.

I'm amused that people still seem to think a mostly plaintext medium that goes through any number of servers on its way from Point A to Point B is in any way private to begin with. If you're concerned about privacy, plain old email isn't the place to start anyway.

Myself, I have a completely dormant gmail account. Chances are, it'll never get used (the mailserver on my home box is just fine with me too). But since I already don't see the ads on the side of the screen any more, if I end up using it for anything it won't bother me.
