Sacramento, Anyone? San Francisco, even?

Discussion: Sacramento, Anyone? San Francisco, even?
Mamalissa! · 20 years, 9 months ago
So, I'll be in Sacramento from June 24th - 29th, and I'm only working the first two days. That pretty much leaves me 26th, 27th, and 28th (29th is a travel day) to do whatever hell I want.

So... is anyone in the area? I'll have a rental car, and can make it down to San Francisco for a day or two. I haven't been to San Francisco since I was 16, so I'll probably go down there anyway.

Paul will be up near there in the same time period I believe, but will be superbizzy anyway.

I wanna go back to san francisco and see the purdy seals!

Peter Mulvey'll be performing at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley on the evening of the 25th, if that's something that floats your boat :-)

I'll be the guy in the last row of bucket seats in front of the sound board, with the shiny silver light stand if I can't get board access ;-)

That's the night I'll be working at my org's auction in Sacramento. Phhhhbththth.

I've checked it out, and I'm missing Peter Mulvey, Warren Haynes, and Dan Bern by 1 or 2 days, and the Asylum Street Spankers by a week.
[edit - and the Anonymous Four as well]

Has anyone ever heard of The Decemberists or Darryl Henriques? Those look like the best bets if I want to see a show.

The Decemberists are fucking great. Very unique style, somewhat Fruvous-friendly in a strange way. See them if you have the chance.

Sounds like I'll go, then. The venue site's description had me at "theremin."

Great American Music Hall's kinda an interesting venue. It's sorta like a slightly upscale, slightly smaller version of every other cavernous-room-venue you've seen, only it's got a fun history.

I tend to rate venues by how well the tapes turn out, and I haven't really had a good tape from the Music Hall yet. But hey, if the Decemberists turn out to be less interesting than you were expecting (perish the thought, if Josh recommended 'em) you can always just go next door to the O'Farrell Theater ;-) (Google it, but you might need to turn "safe search" off ;-) )

I used to work in the same building as the movie theater across-and-down the street -- it was neat, because I could stick my head out the window to figure out when the lines were starting to form. Company died a while back, though. D'oh.

Dan Bern is playing in San Francisco on the 24th.

I am now leaving from SF on Wednesday morning, so I don't have to get back to Das Kapital. Also, I'm ditching the rental car. Turns out, my boss will have one for the work stuff, and if I'm going to a big city, I'd rather not deal with one.
