Tapers & theater tech geeks: Help!

Discussion: Tapers & theater tech geeks: Help!

So I got a new light stand last week, and it's got a 5/8" stud for the mount. Realizing that I would need a 5/8-27 threaded male mount (or at least 3/8-16) to attach my mics to, I went looking for adapters.

I came across this on the B&H website, and ordered it. It showed up, and much to my surprise, the female end is only 3/8. Which won't help me much unless I saw the top of my new stand off.

I'm going to call B&H and politely complain on Monday when they open again, but in the meantime I called a handful of local "photo & video" and "sound & lighting" and "professional music" stores, and none of them have anything that can help. Actually, that's not exactly true; one store had a $40 adapter with a spring-loaded sheath for attaching to boom poles or something that would work. I'd prefer to spend quite a bit less than $40, if I can avoid it.

So, since I appear to be at a loss, and at this point I'm a little over a week away from a bunch of shows that I wanted to try my new mics out at. Has anyone out there dealt with this, or know of someone who sells an adapter like the one I'm looking for? It seems to me that a "5/8 stud to 3/8-16 threaded male" would be more common than 5/8 stud to 5/8-27 threaded; I'll take either, but I seem to be able to locate neither. Any suggestions?

It's been a while since I purchased these, but I believe I have the following for my bogen/monfrotto lightstand:

This is attached to the light stand

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=5358&is=REG

This adapter screws on the 1st one, and the microphones screw over this one

Thanks for the help, Daniel -- but unfortunately I can't seem to get either of your links to work (which is odd, because they have the exact same format as my link). I just get the B&H homepage when I click on them, and/or a redirect that chops off everything after the "O=productlist" parameter.

Can you give me some search terms or a B&H product ID? (I tried searching for the SKUs in the URL as well, no luck there either)

Thanks!

link two

D'oh, was it the redirector that was my problem? Whoops. Thanks, Nate.

I don't think I explored that section of B&H properly.. the 1/4 threaded wouldn't help me, but just below it I found this, BO3102 ("Rapid Adapter - 5/8" Stud to 3/8" Male Thread"), which is exactly what I needed. Well, almost; I still need a reducer for my t-bar, but I've already got a bunch of those. Thanks, Daniel!

(And thanks, Nate, for pointing out how copy-and-paste is a useful technique ;-) )

yeah, the redirect causes lots of problems with links... so I have to edit that part out any time I post one.
*nods*

Also, apparently, it makes it so that once you follow the link, you can't hit back to get back to the fhdc thread.
(Only in IE, though.... I found out about that from becca...)
