summer beer

   Discussion: summer beer
Paul · 20 years, 9 months ago
Do you change the beer you drink becuase the weather gets warmer? As in switch from dark to light or amber? Favorite beer? Domestic? Foreign? Ever drank Saranac Lake or Yuengling?
nate... Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Saranac makes some pretty good beers.

The best around here for summer beers, in my opinion, is BBC's River Ale.
Lots of great flavor... yet light and refreshing for summer weather.

Though if you're just having a picnic or whatever, I think you can't really go wrong with rolling rock. Tastes great with a lime in it (since it's pretty much a better version of corona) and it's refreshing. (It's also, like, half the price of corona.)
The only thing is, it has to be ICE cold... if it gets even remotely warm, it's undrinkable.
Paul Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

I have to agree Rolling Rock is only good real cold. But I bought it once and haven't bought it since. Yuengling makes a great black and tan and also amber beer. Its available in Mass and NY and its really cheap! Usually $8.99 a 12 pack. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be available in CT. But whenever I can I pick some up!

Yeah. I'm pretty fond of rolling rock too. I can drink it less-than-frozen, but it is much better as cold as can be.

I don't have a "summer beer" per-say (although Rolling Rock might come close) but when it's fallish out, I tend to drink cider rather than beer.
Josh Woodward · 20 years, 9 months ago
Not really, except for the really hot days. Nothing beats a light, mega-hoppy ale or a wheat beer for that.
nate... Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Huh.
I've never seen it... I'll have to keep an eye out.

My root beer stays the same all year! IBC!
A girl named Becca Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Word.
Except I have a fondness for fresh A&W in a frosty mug. :) And since the A&W is only open in the summer I guess that makes it my summer beer.
nate... Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
amen!
IBC is grood!!!
I mean good.
And great.
Great and good.

Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

Especially ice cold. :) Mmmmm.

And I just love drinking out of glass bottles.

The one thing I hate about IBC is no barcode so it's hard to return the bottles. Some places put a barcode sticker on them and that works out but places like Sam's club don't.

Dammit, I like using bottle return machines, not speaking to humans! :)

The Rock is defiantely a summer beer and is best enjoyed in that season. However do to financial reasons I see my self with that green bottle in my hands throughout the year. I have to love a 5 dollar 6 pack.
Paul Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

Yes you should try it. I will bring some to Falcon Ridge as much as i can fit in the van, maybe we don't need the tent afterall! Unfortunately Yuengling isn't available in Massachusetts but you can get it in NY. I think I bought some last year at the Hillsdale IGA.

nate... Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Yeah, looked today at the store that would have "non standard" brews and had no luck.
I'll have to wait till frff I guess. :)

Paul Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

I have some as I was in NY last week but it won't last till FRFF. PC Tech? Nice Job. Although I almost have a real job I am studying to try and pass the A+ exam.

dave "buh" · 20 years, 9 months ago
Yeah, that's pretty good ... But I'm not much of a beer drinker.
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
mmmmmm..wheat beers. They are usually my beer of choice. Particularly Belgian-style brews. My favorite used to be Celis White (alas, I can't find it around here anymore). I was also partial to a couple of Apricot Wheat beers that I had at various restaurants, which were quite yummy and refreshing. Other than that, I tend to lean towards hard ciders during the warm summer months.
Josh Woodward Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Mmm.. Belgian whites are killer. As are dubbel and trippels for different reasons. Lambics are the nastiest thing ever to hit the beer world, though. ;-)

Funny, I just saw Yuengling lager on a specials board at dinner tonight and I wouldn't have noticed at all if not for this thread. Too bad I'm not 21. And don't like beer.
Paul Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
I hated beer at first too didn't like it till late 20's I like it now but with a good meal mostly. Its too filling to drink more than one or two bottles and I don't like hangovers much. For the price Yuengling is a quality beer, much better thanyour typical massproduced American beer (bud, miller etc.)

It's an awesome place to live.

I always balked at the idea of living here for the same reason anyone balks at living in their home town.....
But... I lived other places... have visited many other places (and countries) and all it's done is cement into my head how much I love this town. :)

Such a great mix of small town and lots to do.

Paul Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

Thought about living up there, maybe some day we will or move closer to it than we are anyway. Love the Iron Horse

I don't really have a summer beer... or a winter one.... or anything. one beer tends to get me buzzed cause of my meds, but... if I could have anything I'd take Magic Hat 9. word.
goovie is married! · 20 years, 9 months ago
beer is gross.

i'm newly obsessed with green tea smoothies. i think they're going to be my beverage of choice this summer. :P
Paul Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Magic Hat 9 is a great beer especially heart of darkness.
Rachel Marie aka RAI Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Oh, totally agree about the grossness. So... what are these "tea smoothies" you speak of? I am, indeed, highly interested. :o)
Paul Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

nate... Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
