i don't download music, even legally (being doubly screwed as a mac user in canada). but my brother in law, with whom i used to live, downloads scads.
because of him, i have been exposed to lots of artists i wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise (black 47 springs to mind). & i have thenceforth gone & bought their albums. so it makes me buy more, but i don't dl.

I'll continue to buy CDs for artists and compilations I like... but as far as finding single songs, I've fallen in love with iTunes, and have downloaded a lot of singles there.
Some stuff just isn't there, though, and I still seek a number of those tracks out on WinMX. -- Pauley

i need to have the album and the cover and the pictures and the whole thing. there are artists that I don't mind giving my money to... and so buying the album is the thing I do. right now? I haven't perchased an album or downloaded any music in months. no online time, public computers and I's poor.

I was never able to spend much money on CDs. Geeze, half the CDs I own I stole from my dad. I still spend about the same amount as I always have, which is that I buy a CD maybe every 3 months or so, on average.
I find that the music I download and the music I buy are really different: when downloading, I'm generally looking either for live tracks, rare, unreleased material or other stuff it would be impossible for me to buy. Or else I'm looking for incredibly popular stuff that, even though I find it enjoyable, I would never in a million years buy. Like Fatboy Slim or something. When I buy CDs, it's because I support the person or group and I'm investing in their artistic vision... I like to see cover art, I like to see which songs were chosen for an album and which were left off, and I like to see what order they come in. Albums are awesome.
I'm not sure but I'm guessing that buying a CD every three months or so is above average for the general population.
Four the entire population? mmmm, how many CDs are sold a year total?
