A favorite pasttime of mine is going on DC++ (I usually use the Indieous hub), searching for an artist that I like, then requesting file lists from anyone who has files from them. If the file list comes back fast, say over 30 kbps, I'll look through their "catalog" and grab anything that sounds interesting. I keep Amazon handy for streaming samples. I'd hate to think how many new artists I've discovered that way.

It's also a good way to find EPs and junk from artists you already like. I just completed my Belle & Sebastian catalog, and I'm almost done with Grandaddy (but they put out so many damn EPs that it's hard).

there are so many people I know with good taste and more time than myself who I depend on to inform me of good music. At this point though, all of the music I am listening to is less than 5 months old for me, and so it is all still really new.

Actively find new music, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Flamenco, Indian/Pakistani, Arab, Oriental, Soul, Punk. You name it listen to it, I have yet to find my musical limit. I am proud that I am so open to new genres and artists, :-)

I listen to Fruvous, any rock, oldies, jazz, classical, disco, pop, and any other music you can name. Except rap. I do not hold rap in great esteem. With the introduction of iPods to my social circle, I have received so many different artists and styles that they are hard to keep track of. I can no longer remember if I have heard a song before. I can only delete songs I dislike, if I can remember which ones I don't enjoy. What I am trying to say is that I will listen to anything twice. Twice is enough to decide. I just enjoy different styles to different moods. Anger or restlessness give me rock. Loniless or extreme happiness lend me pop. Mellowness leades to jazz. Ska from a feeling of being 'slick.' Soundtracks when I just saw a movie. Etc...

It's been too long since I've gotten into any new (to me, not necessarily literally "new") bands. Most of the ones I have gotten into were through other people, or through connections or comparisons to bands I already liked.
