It seems like I'm the first one to announce that our own Murray Foster was half of the first gay couple to get married in Pennsylvania. During last night's Great Big Sea concert Murray married GBS drummer Kris MacFarlane, at least according to Alan. Murray only wore his ring for one song, I think this doesn't bode well for the marriage.
Ya know? I think Murray was pressured into it. But amazingly, Kris had the ring at the ready to give to him. I think Alan was more excited about it than either of them. So will it now be Kris Foster, or Murray McFarlane?
Wonder if anyone has told Murray's girlfriend about this... ;)
Kris and Murray McFoster.
::cracks up:: I'm sorry guys, I'm just in a giddy mood. It was SO fun last night. I highly reccomend GBS shows. Very good for people who like to bounce. And yay for seeing Grodan again and meeting Gella! IRL roolz. ;o)
I concur. Meeting Gordon last night was fun, and budgiemistress Lori and her hubby Steve. Gella hugs will always rock. And I got to have my first frulad sighting, which made the whole event evenmore surreal. <sigh> One down, 3 to go.
No man, the rule is to put the name with the least syllables last!
...I'm biased. (Last name = Morgan-Wall) the first thought that occurred to me was that i hadn't sent a gift, how remiss of me. the second was, "this takes slash to a whole new level." *ducks*

There was no hint whatsoever of their hidden romance Friday night at Pearl Street.
They're *all* gay. Didn't you know that?
Except Mike. He's trisexual. From your nick, did you get to talk to Murray after the show? *jealous* Not one of them came out after the Pearl Street show. However, there was a line of fishgirls lined up at the tour bus.....Hmmmmmmmm.
yes, Murray waited for me to go to the merch table to pick up CDs to come out so I missed him.
It is so hard to be me.
it really is. one can't even have chocolate bought for one if one is you.
so sad. truly.
It's a term we throw around here - not necessarily a nice one, but used in the most loving manner. I'd recommend searching alt.music.moxy-fruvous for the full discussion/history/argument.
One post I find especially illuminating is by Gella, posted 4 years ago this Thursday. I'm snipping and quoting here... hopefully that's ok. Fishgirl is a term used to describe those fans (usually a subset of JiHead, but not always... there are quite a few Murray Fishgirls) who go all googly-eyed when they see that member of the band who tickles their fish-like fancy. The name fish-girl is from the fish-like look on their faces when their eyes bug out. There are different levels of fishgirl-ism. The extremety of obnoxiousness (and they're not all obnoxious, I'm talking heavy-duty fishgirl here) can go to someone who just likes the band because they saw a picture of their beloved. One may also be described as a fishgirl if they have a tendency to babble on and on about one member of the band. There are also a few scattered male fishgirls. I find that fishgirl-ism is more in attitude than action. Sometimes talking to someone you would initially describe as a fishgirl, you will find that there is a legitimate reason that they are particularly interested in or have a certain affection for one member of the band... but often its just looks. Another important point: Fishgirl is not always an insult. One may say affectionately to a dear friend after observing them at a concert, "Oh, Jane, you're such a fishgirl!" Well, that's my take on it. And please, remember that labels are evil. Do not be quick to judge anyone. :) I should also point out that I'm a Murry Fishgirl. A Piscogirl, if you will (hence my Yahoo screenname)
heh... yeah, I sort of remember that kid who wrote that...
Ah, okay, I understand now. A friend of mine who went to the Northampton GBS show chatted with Murray afterwards. He said he can tell if there are Fruheads in the crowd because "I notice a lot of people not looking at anyone else in the band, just staring at me." I dunno if that's good, bad, or what, but I just thought it was an interesting comment.
I dunno about other Fruheads, but I've been watching all members of GBS for 5 years now (except for Alan, because he expects it ;) ), and I'm not stopping just because my favourite Frulad is playing with them.
Well... I must admit that I was watching Murray rather intently (though not exclusively) Saturday night. Sorry, I haven't seen him in two years. I miss the guy.
Well, when it comes to GBS fans, most eyes go to either Alan or Sean. Murray's still "the new guy" in our circle because most of the places they're hitting right now saw Darrell with the band the last time GBS came around. So, with GBS, I think he's used to people not paying attention to him because he's "the new guy."
Well, GBS fans don't take to change very well. Take the new album, for example. Before anyone had even heard it, people were freaking out because it wasn't their usual trad sound. People were acting like it was the friggin' Apocalypse or something. Some people still hate it simply because it's different. Oy... :P
Interesting, I think you looked at him less than you thought. Whenever I looked at him I could see you and noticed you were usually looking at the other guys.
I found myself looking at Alan and Sean almost as much as I normally do, with Murray getting more time than Darrel did. I think Bob lost out hte most. Poor Bob, I'm sure he is crying now. I was happy when Murray looked at me and gave me a smile and a nod. I wasn't sure if he'd remember me.
Well, see, I was pretty sure he was smiling at me... but, you know, it could have been both of us...
Poor Bob, I'm sure he is crying now. Not likely ;)Bob gets freaked out ifhe's the center of attentionfor too long ;) He's an odd fellow. Everyone I've talked to who'sseen him on the street said he avoids eye contact with people. He looks up, down and anywhere but where there are people.A friend of mine saw him in a pub once, and when a large crowd came in, Bob got walleyed and bolted as if his ass were on fire. I think he has a fear of crowds because he usually goes straight to the bus after shows. So, yeah, Bob is probably appreciative of those who don't stare at him for too long ;) I can only imagine what was going through his head when Sean used him as a human stripper pole at the Northampton show ;)
i think it does have to do with kissy faces. that's part of the expression on a fish's face -- eyes bugged out, lips sucked in but parted and trembly-like...
once took pictures of a bunch of us making fishgirl faces. here are the results: http://members.aol.com/srm9988n/fishgir1.jpg http://members.aol.com/srm9988n/fishgir2.jpg scary, wot?

I feel dumb for asking this, but I don't think I'm the only one who's a bit confused.
Is this thread for real? Or is there some sort of inside joke and I'm out of the loop?
Everything that I said happenned happenned. I don't think that the laws of Pennsylvania give a singer/songwriter/guitarist the power to perform weddings so I'd have to say that I lean towards believing this was a joke on the part of the band. Each of us is entitled to our own opinion :-)
There was no Murray there, just some hot guy in a fedora named Buck. ;-) Definate lesbian name.
Heehee.
Thanks for the clarification. :) (I know, way to spoil the fun, Becca...) And I for one was touched and proud to be witness to such an historic event. When it happens in Pennsylvania, can Alabama be far behind?
bored, bored, bored....

I'm thinking GBS has been on the road a little *too* long - what with the boob-grabbing and the marriages....;-)
"Murray's Nipples" would be a great name for a band.....
