Nellie McKay

I know this is late notice but Nellie McKay is going to be on Letterman tonight, February 6. Check her out!

Luckily, I got her last-minute mailing list message in time and TiVoed it. How in the world did that end up happening? That was just freaky to see. But cool!

Believe it or not you actually know of Nellie because of the person who books the music on Letterman. She discovered her, told Rita Houston at FUV about her, and Rita had her as a guest on FUV where I heard her.

I recently found out that Rita Houston the music director of WFUV found out about Nellie from the guy that books the acts on Letterman. He gave her the heads up on Nellie then Rita was the first to put her on the radio.

She was good! She didn't have quite as much of a "deer in headlights" look (until the end of the song) as she did that first time on Conan. She could stand to work on her stage presence a bit because her eyes were kinda staring off into space most of the time. She got all her lyrics out (including the "fuck"s, which were subtly muted:). Best moment: the camera pans off to her frilly and enormous pink dress for the "stupid way I dress" line. :)

So did I. I got distracted by Monty Python. I'm guessing she was on after MP was over so if I had just changed the channel i would have seen her.
