I'd recommend a couple things, off the top, given that I have been there while you've moved people before:
- stretch for five to ten minutes before doing exercise. I'm thinking the exercise set that we used to do pre-wrestling at high school specifically. Something to get the muscles and joints limber.
- Yes, doing regular exercise will help. Specifically I'd recommend swimming at the aquatic centre during off-times. Swimming is very low-impact, it won't stress your joints or muscles out. Follow some of the elderly during their sessions if you want to take it seriously. Move to the weight room after you've been regularly swimming for a while. Personally I'm a huge fan of treading water. When I swam regularly (*looks forlorn at his half-used swimming pass*) I used to do 15 minutes exclusively lower-body treading and 15 minutes exclusively upper-body treading. Best exercise I ever found.
- Get a kinky girlfriend and have lots of freaky sex. Good cardio and it'll get those joints all worked out ;)
- Take 400 mg ibuprofen an hour or two before starting the move. Take another 400 mg as soon as you've passed the recommend waiting time, four or six hours, I think.
- Have a long hot shower after moving. The heat will help the soreness in your muscles and joints and the steam is beneficial for your asthmatic lungs (I know what I'm talking about here). Be careful that you don't come out of the shower into a way colder apartment or you risk triggering bronchio-spasming
- Remember that many hands make light work. Figure out how many people you realistically would need to move comfortably. Ask three times that number to show up. In real life you'll get the number you originally were hoping for, ideally you'll get twice as many as you hoped for.
I really could keep going with this but I'll spare you ;)
Belated Merry Christmas, BTW
