New Year's Eve

I might as well bring up something I always find depressing. What are your New Year's Eve plans?
I'll be with hopefully my entire immediate family in South Carolina. We're all over the country now, so it would be a wonderful occasion for my parents to have us all under the same roof again. It has been my personal tradition to do a major New Year's every other year, while taking the off years, well, off. 2001: Bosstones and TMBG in Baltimore. Greatest bill I've ever attended. 1999: Billy Joel Millenium concert at MSG. Nuf' Said.
me, too.
we went out last year to see a big ol' andrew and kevin show, and it was a lot of fun except for all the crowded stinky smoky drunk people. and there's nothing good and inexpensive going on around here this year, so i think we'll just stay home and drink bad champagne and watch movies in our pajamas. wheee.
You are such a meanie patini. OK I'll just go to the LOTR cast Orgy. Liv loves me.
Probably something quiet at home with the kids. This is what we always do and have done since before they were born, and it drives me crazy. I always want to be out partying and Lisa doesn't, which is odd since she's more of a partier than me. It was because she was pregnant and felt too far along to go that I missed the near-mythical TONYE which I even helped organize. :(
We'll see. Maybe we'll do something this year.
Hmm. That sounds like I'm beeing too critical to Lisa. That isn't what I meant. I mean I'm involved in 50 % of the decision too, so it isn't like it is all her by any means. Staying home has just been what has worked out best (and actually I think we did go to a party of some sort last year with the kids), but I'm just saying that I'm reall raring to go to a concert or something. :)

will be spending a good chunk of time at my parents house playing scattergories, but the rest of the night will be spent at my own home with a rather large (and growing *blink*) slew of folks from out this way. it'll be the first time i've had a new year's eve party at my place. should be interesting. then again, my idea of partying can be quite boring. movies upstairs, darts and video games downstairs ... hmm. sure sounds like bliss to me. (: -= george =- oh yes. there shall be poutine. metric assloads of it. :D -= george =- i dunno, but i think that's an answer for a different poll. -= george =-

My love and I will join 3 other couples in renting a house on the Oregon Coast. I'm sure it will be stormy and lovely...we are planning to cook a large steak and seafood dinner and follow it up in front of the fire with drinks and good company. Every year I plan an outing I'm disappointed because we spent to much or didn't hang with enough real friends orwhatever. But I'm really looking forward to this one! It really is the most over rated holiday. Second maybe to Valentine's Day.

Probably moping around the house wishing that I was cool enough to go out and play with the cool kids, but alas, being a month and a week from being 21 prevents me from doing anything. ;o)

We're going to start off at the Old Toad - the only authentic (sorta) british pub in rochester - round about 6 for a meal and to join in with the New-Year-in-England festivities, which is 7pm our time. After a bit of a rest we'll probably find our way down to our fav local pub to watch the ball drop and if we're really adventurous still until last call and then go to another pub for breakfast....if we make it that far....which i doubt....but's it's fun to wish i could still do things like that.

I'll be playing New Year's Eve. New Years gigs are great. I've always felt that New Year's was way over-hyped, over-priced and just over-everythinged ;-) So I'd rather play, goof around with my buddies in the band, have fun *and* get paid for it. Plus, we get to bring spouses this year, so since my spouse also plays in the band, we get to bring 2 guests. Wahoo!

There are two possibilities - a 30th birthday party which as far as I know is unplanned, and an as-yet-to-be-determined party/hangout type of thing with college friends coming into town from Boston.
Best NYE: For NYE 2000, I was at a farm in upstate NY with about 35 other people, where no watches or TVs were allowed. We'd decide it must be midnight and celebrate, and then someone would come in from their car and say "it's only 10:00 guys" - we celebrated the turning of midnight 4 times. We also wrote poetry and played marathon charades. And went curling on the frozen lake. Fruvous NYE: NYE 1999, Bottom Line, Dan Bern co-bill, celebrated through the vicarious kissing couple onstage Lonliest NYE: NYE 1997, I was leaving for Israel on the 1st, and stayed home with my Aunt's cat whom we were taking care of, and watching Dick Clark. Other NYE events have included: Watching Bollywood Movies in Brooklyn (2002), Phish's first post-hiatus show (2003), Country Line Dancing (1995?), and various small get-togethers, usually with Stephanie

While all specific events are completely up in the air, I have more or less established that I will be spending my New Year's Eve with a girl. Her name is Katie, she's a language nerd, and I have successful hooked her on Peter Mulvey, Lord of the Rings (the books), and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. w00t.
