better to get it out in the open and over with either way. dreaming about hooking up with someone is all fine and good as long as you're resigned to it being dreaming.
there's no harm in asking. at least then you know. who knows, maybe your buddy is interested.
personally i think ldr's lick ass, but that's just me. maybe your buddy feels different.
