here's something to ponder....what would you do if you won the lottery (or cameinto a very large some of money if some other legal way) i would definatly leave my job that second....then i would donate 1 million to the pottery org that i belong to to insure they can contiue to operate for many long years to come...i would buy myself a studio and start in on my dream to be a potter...set some aside for all the traveling and adventures richard and i have always wanted to do....the rest i would save and investso that us and our familys could live comfortably...along with what i can earn in my new endevours....
Unlike most - I wouldn't quit my job I don't think. I really kinda like what I do.
I would invest some of the winnings and with a good portion of the rest, organize a big free music fest with all the acts I know and love. Then I'd fly all the fruheads in for the weekend. :) There's also a lot of charitable donations I'd like to make. If the winnings were high enough I'd like to finance upcoming Supers/Starling projects too.
How large are we talking?
Pay a tenth to some combination of church, Oxfam, and Bread for the World, pay off my debts (and those of my family). If there's some left, endow a big scholarship for humanities majors. If there's still some left, start an alternative service recruitment center to help people find more options to pay for college/grad school. I think I'd keep working, but I'd choose a job that I liked over one that paid well. Wait-- I've done that already. This is all a moot point, though. (The lottery part, anyway.) You can't win if you don't buy a ticket. How large are we talking? that's up to your imaginations...i had in mind the multi-state "Mega-Millions" lottery...which i believe (if no one won the last drawing) is something like 115 million dollars...even after taxes, that's a pretty nice sum. but it doesn't have to be lottery...if you came into lots of money another way...like inherited or an unknown, but very rich relative left you all of his/her estate...it doesn't matter how (well...legally would be nice ;-)

If you search the different threads here, diaryland, and livejournal you'll find lots of references to my winning the lottery, or more accuratly to my not winning it. It has become something akin to waiting for the coming of the Messiah. People like spending my money for me. Here's a partial list. When I win the lottery

probably stay in sdhool bt not have to worry about debt at th end of uni and also um...yeah Id try and get my poetry published and the poems of my friend paul and maybe try and get some of my friends bands going if the money stretched that far and I would pay for both me and emilie to fly first class injuly next year and also stay in hotels rather than hostels........I'd take justine too if her mum would allow it! I'd also have food right now which would be a bonus and be able to make outbound calls on my cell phone....see this is why money can be a good thing though not the only thing in your life...when you have it you can share it.
