Mix CD help

   Discussion: Mix CD help
A girl named Becca · 21 years, 11 months ago

OK, so I have a few ideas for mix CD's I've been planning to make for a while, but they all need a few more songs to be really worth doing, and this seems like a good group of people to appeal to for suggestions.  :)  The themes I'm working with are:
-Insanity (either songs that mention "crazy" or something in the title, or are about being insane, or whatever)
-Driving (cars, road trips, etc.)
-Cities (in general, or a specific city, preferably mentioned in the title).  (This was stolen from an idea Beth had for her show.)

All genres are acceptable.  :)

Driving
Whoever You Are (The driving song) - Geggy Tah, Sacred Cow

Insanity
Bad Habit - The Offspring - Smash

Special Delivery - The Offspring - Original Prankster

I'll Make You Love Me - The Vandals - The Quickening

Those are the only ones I can think of atm.

Cities

Las Vegas with the lights out - Geggy Tah, Sacred Cow

I haven't put much thought into it, but the first thing that popped into my head when I read the word "Driving" was Cheryl Wheeler's "Driving Home". Don't know if you have that already, or if you don't like her, etc., but there you have it. :)

If you don't know the song, I think you can hear a clip here, though I don't know how long/good it is.

OK, if you're accepting all genres, lemme check my 70's and 80's MP3's and CD's... of course, I'm gonna find the driving ones, with some city ones besides... but here goes...

"Vehicle" -- Ides Of March "Drivin' My Life Away" -- Eddie Rabbitt "Ventura Highway" -- America "Rockin' Down The Highway" -- Doobie Brothers :The Little Old Lady From Pasadena" -- Jan & Dean "Fuel" -- Metallica "I Can't Drive 55" -- Sammy Hagar "Kickstart My Heart" -- Motley Crue "RPM" -- Sugar Ray "Get Out Of My Dreams (Get Into My Car)" -- Billy Ocean "The Distance" -- Cake "Slow Ride" -- Foghat "Life Is A Highway" -- Tom Cochrane

And for some city songs... "Heart Of Rock and Roll" -- Huey Lewis & The News (no cities in the title, but city names all over the lyrics) "We Built This City" -- Starship

Ooh, for crazyness: "Crazy Train" -- Ozzy Osbourne

and for America: "We're An American Band" -- Grand Funk Railroad

That's all I've found so far, I'll keep a-hunting when I think of it.

And, please, I don't mean to hog this forum....if anyone else is an obsessive-complusive mix-burning dork and wants some suggestions, I'm willing to share the wealth.  Or something.  :)

A girl named Becca · 21 years, 11 months ago
After the response to those last 3 (as I said, you guys rock), I'm almost afraid to mention this, but I'm in the preliminary brainstorming phases of a (not patriotic) America mix...so far, I have "Stupid American" (well, obviously....even though Julie sings it), "America" (the Simon and Garfunkel and West Side Story versions) and "What You Own."  Anyone want to contribute?  :)  (Heehee....this is great, I don't even need to think any more.)
wild bill Back · 21 years, 11 months ago
i'm afraid of americans - david bowie (and nin)
american jesus - bad religion
flag day - the housemartins (not america specific but a song about stupid patriotism)

thats all i can think of right now....
Mamalissa! Back · 21 years, 11 months ago

"American Woman"  Both the Guess Who and the Lenny Kravitz versions.

In both "Funky Kaylee" (Black 47) and "Honey Pie" Brit boys pine for their girls who have run off to America.

Is there an Indigo Girls version of S&G's "America"?  Possibly.

and Driving - has no one mentioned Dave-O's solo tune "Drive too Much?"  And "Number Six Driver?"
