Thornhill on eBay for $.01 at the moment, if anybody is interested.

Not a plug, I'm just letting anybody who's interested know. I certainly wouldn't sell any cd for $.01.
They are the most famous on eBay for selling cds for 1 cent hence their eBay ID: onecentcds
They are also powersellers.
now if it was the C album it would be a total rip off!
;)
Thornhill wasn't THAT bad. Certainly worth the $3.00 or so it would be after shipping. I went on a bidding spree last night, and half of the things I bid on are now about to won by somebody else...
snipe em! :)
I did that at my last auction. I waited until the auction was about to end in two minutes and got the item.
you know, I've often been annoyed when that happened to me, but isn't it kind of unnecessary? you just put in the highest price you'd be willing to pay for it, and wait until the end... if you win, you win. if not, it's out of your price range anyway.
is there an advantage to going in at the last minute?
Of course!
If you bid before the last 30 seconds.... you have a possibility to be outbid.. and as such, you just needlessly drive up the cost.
I only bid in the last 30 seconds of an auction.
:)
You got it nate! That way if you do want it that badly, and eBay sends the other person the outbid notice, it's too late to do anything about it.
I love the people who whine about the sniping on the eBay Auction boards. There are programs that help you to snipe an auction as well. I've never used one though. Just wait until the last minute. :)
but... if you get outbid, it's out of your price range anyway. that's the way it's supposed to work - after all, if only two people want something and one puts in a maximum bid of $10 and you put in a maximum of $15, you'll get it for $10.50 or $11, not $15.
if they have a maximum bid in of $10, but they're currently holding it at $5, and you bid $6 at the last minute, you'll be automatically outbid at $7 and not be able to do anything about it.
Then you bid on another item.
There are always items you can get cheaper by bidding in the last minute.
it's all about patience.
:)
but that's totally not my point.
my point is that sniping is ineffective. it gains you nothing. just bid normally and you'll have exactly the same results without having to sit by your computer as the auction ends.
Nope, sorry.
:)
The earlier you bid, the more the price goes up with other people trying to outbid you.
and if it goes out of your price range, you STILL can't buy it. same as if it goes out of your price range before you bid.
You obviously haven't used ebay much. :)
But, there are few factors...
One is that sometimes people will misspell, that makes it stay much lower... when the price is significantly lower than others of that same item closing near the same time, some people think there's a problem with the very low priced item... or they'll only watch one auction out of many.
The other thing is... there are a lot of people who will cit there waiting till the end... it's like playing chicken... if you can wait until the last few seconds, than even those other people who are waiting till the end don't have time to outbid you.
:)
Ebay is a complex game.
> You obviously haven't used ebay much. :)
actually, I have. and I've won every auction where I wasn't outbid, and I've lost every auction where the price was above what I was willing to spend. sometimes it got there early, sometimes late. either way, I didn't have to sit there watching it.
I always bid my max early - if I weren't willing to spend it, I wouldn't bid it.
Sure, but I don't want to pay the max I'm willing to pay unless I have to.
Here's how it works.....
You set a max price... someone comes along and bids, then gets auto-outbid. So they bid again, and get auto-outbid again... etc etc... all the while, the price going up. Then you either win or not.
Whereas, I don't set a max price... someone comes along and bids... they outbid me... they go "oh jee! that's cool!" then they go away... and I wait till the last minute, then outbid them.
That way, the price only went up by two increments, instead of many more (possibly)
ahhh, that works fine if they follow your logic. but if they follow my logic, you still gain nothing, since you'll "outbid" their current bid, but not their maximum. you'll only increase the amount they have to pay for it when they win.
or you could put in a bid of $10000000 at the last minute to guarantee it, while not allowing anyone to force your bid to actually get that high (i.e. if you put in a ridiculous max bid early, and people suspect you did, they'll push you into that ridiculous range)
right?
True.
But if I get outbid by their auto-thing... no biggie, I just move on to the next one that's ending soon.
:)
That's only happened to me a few times... usually I get it.
"the next one that's ending soon?"
I suppose it depends on what you're bidding on, but most of the stuff I've wanted on eBay tends to be stuff I can only get on eBay, so there's never a large enough selection to be able to do that. it's more, if you don't win the auction, you're not getting it.
Ohhhh... well, yeah, if it's something rare or unusual...
I usually buy stuff on ebay because you can get it cheaper than at stores... online or IRL.
For instance, I just got a new belt clip for my cell phone for $.01 yesterday. :D
however in your mind you have a maximum bid. But if you want to go lower then why put the maximum in?
I recently one a video that is retail $79.99. my maximum bid is $40. However I don't want to put that in...so I put in what I feel was my maximum at the time which was $33.00. I was outbid by 50 cents 4 hours before the auction's end. No one else bid so in the last minute of the auction, I upped it to $34.00 as the max and I won at 33.50.
I don't know if you see my reasoning, but just because you make a maximum bid one time isn't the highest you will go.
If the auction ends at 8pm eastern time and I'm on the computer I will play with it. If I'm not and I'm outbid so what. But this item in particular is hard to find and is hardly ever on eBay.
It's Thornhill, is it worth more than a penny? I hope that's a Canadian cent. A US penny is too much. :-)
