When I make burgers I like to mix in some oregano and some tabasco into the meat. Tastey.

It's really context dependent. I picked cilantro because I'm craving Thai food. But tomatoes-- tomatoes who love basil are the luckiest tomatoes in the world.
Re: tomatoes and basil
Can I just add amen! and hallelujah! Mix in some fresh mozzarella and you can die happy
that's so odd, i just had something like this tonight, only we used feta instead of mozzerella.
here's the recipie: http://megnut.com/bread_salad.asp
yum! that makes a very yummy summer pizza thing. take a baguette, slice it, and put a slice of tomato, some shreaded fresh basil leaves and some chunked up fresh mozz on top along with some decent EVOO, then toss it in the broiler for a couple minutes. heaven.

I had to choose the "other" option, simply because I couldn't choose just one favorite herb. I love basil (I want to grow several different varieties of it this year--cinnamon basil, anise basil, lime basil, lemon basil, yum, yum!), and cilantro, and oregano (I have some of the best oregano, a good Turkish strain, in my garden), and rosemary, and cumin, and fennel, and parsley, and...well, I'm not going to take up a zillion kb listing them all.
I love fresh tarragon! Especially on green beans or in salad. Yum.
Finally, I was despairing for the lack of love for the tarragon!!! What is wrong with you people!!!??? :) (tho' dill is a close second, and lime basil is nipping at it's heels!). I absolutely adore fresh tarragon, but tarragon is also one of only herbs that, when dried, adds a completely unique flavor, (although decidedly still tarragon - because both the fresh and dried flavors are not similar to any other herb) to the same dish, and these different flavors don't merely color the same dish differently, they actually lend themselves better to different preparation methods! (e.g. added to a sauce rather than added to the food during cooking, or being part of a marinade as opposed to being part of a dry-rub, etc.)

I can't remember if I have posted a response to a poll before, but if I did, it was a very long time ago. The sexual orientation poll was the first poll that I not only voted in, but also posted a number of responses to *AND* followed quite closely. I was surprised to learn that, not only was it only the third poll in FHDC's history to hit 100 postings, but it more that doubled that mark, hitting at least 202 postings!!! You Fruheads are a strange and a little intimidating crowd at first (and I mean that only in the best sense! :) ), but who knew you'd all turn out to be such a fun, interesting bunch! Thanks for letting a guy how has heard a total of maybe 5 Moxy Fruvous songs (never more than one time each) hang out with you all!
anyone who has a south park commando icon is more than welcome here :)

I just noticed that at least 4 of you actually endorsed "I HATE FLAVOR" I saw that as a facetious selection and one that nobody in their right mind would select. I can understand "I hate flava" but "I hate flavor"... My feeble mind simply fails to comprehend!
:)
Ah, but Americans aren't allowed to spell it that way. It makes us pretentious.

The results here are really suprising to me. Dill? I don't personally like it, but I really didn't know it had so many "supporters". At least not up against the big guns like basil, oregano and parsley.
At least cilantro isn't winning. That stuff is just plain fowl. I was in a hurry once and grabbed it by accident instead of parsley. I *almost* used it until I smelled my hands and they smelled like I had been pulling weeds all day. I just don't get it.
I'm not a fan of cilantro either. And my dad adored it so it showed up in many things I didn't want it to. :)
Love dill, love oregano...rosemary... My favorite flavorings are not usually the green stuff though. Gimme lots of garlic any day! :)
Yeah, I'm as shocked as you.... dill??? over those other options?
I mean, don't get me wrong.. dill is a great herb... but.. look at the competition! And incidentally, I almost did vote for cilantro... but ended up going with basil just because I had had some fresh basil on a pizza the night before and it was on my mind. :) Cilantro is very much a "love it or hate it" herb.... when I first had it, I *hated* it... but then I started having it in food I liked... and now it's one of my favorites. Especially thai food.. you can't make it without cilantro! (that and fish sauce) mmm.. thai food.

I had to go with Oregano (that's o-RE-ga-no, not o-re-GA-no) because of my Italian upbringing... but I have to agree that it is very dependent on context. Different flavors mean different things to me. A summer tomato and cucumber salad *must* have dill (and a light vinegar,) and no chicken soup is complete without a healthy dose of the stuff as well... but by candelight it's deep red tomatoes with basil and fresh mozzarella drizzled with extra virgin and a nice balsamic. Cilantro is a must for that hint of Mexico or India, but some things just *require* parsley.
And what the hell about thyme?! I mean... thyme!!! you *need* thyme! And wasn't Tarragon the herb that Mike suggested smoking in our last edition of The Quill? You must first create an account to post.
