Monday is a Holiday here in the States, so those of us coming up might stay till Monday..
I was planning on staying over Sunday night and leaving Monday, just like last year.
Holiday? Hmph. Not at my school. Bastages...
Fortunately, I have only one monday class and it's at 7 pm. Any chance we can get back by then john? :D
Piece of cake. It's an 8 hour drive, so we would have to leave by 11 AM. I think that's approximately the time we left last year. It would also mean I'd get home at 9 PM, very good for getting to work the next day. We just have an early breakfast, and we're off.

nooooo! Please tell me you're joking and it's still on Saturday! I have EvilPlayRehearsal on Sunday night! GAH!
bah. Second year in a row of MissingMurray. :(
but, CK... we all know it's not the real Murray. because he's otherwise occupied, right? ;-)
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but I checked C'est What's website today and it looks as though there won't be a Lesters performance. The Supers show has been shifted to Friday night and Arlene Bishop is now listed as the opener. I've sent the club an email for confirmation and details though...
The site also mentions a CD release so it's possible the new Supers CD is done!!! :)
According the website, they've wiped out ALL Sunday and Monday performances. This wasn't just the bands cancelling the show, the venue simply reduced their performance schedule from 7 days a week to Tue-Sat. Now THAT sucks. :(
Leanne, let us know soon what is going on over there?
OMG that sucks beyond suckage! Murray wouldn't let us down though... would he?
Like I said, this was the venue's doing of wiping out Sunday & Monday. Let's torch the place! :)
I realize this John... what I'm asking is do you think Murray will attempt to make sure we get to see The Lesters over Frucon weekend? I mean, I don't get the impression that he hates us like Jian does. I would hope that he would realize how much the FruHeads who don't get to Canada very often would really like to see him and his band and would make an effort to make sure we get to. What do you think?
I think anything is certainly possible. Tory & Murray have that date set aside for a show anyway, perhaps they can find a different venue for their band to play a show that night. Here's to hoping.
Kath who was the chick we saw at a Frucon show (was it FCI?) and Harbourfront? Was it Oh Susannah? ::shudder::
Yeah, The Supers are opening for Arlene. The booking guy at C'est What says he doesn't know how that info about The Lesters got on their site because they weren't scheduled at all...
Either way, I feel bad if we misled people into thinking there would be a show. But what can you do sometimes? When I was playing in my rock band, I didn't even know when and where I was playing at times.
I was talking to a woman who is friend with Murray and the Supers at a concert two weeks ago, and she said the Lesters/Supers show was probably not going to be happening because Murray was getting a new job. She hinted that it had something to do with his time with Great Big Sea a while ago, so he MAY be subbing for Darrell. No confirmation on this, though.
thought so.
damn. we're never gonna see him again. Or at least *i'm* not. When the hell does GBS ever come out here?
Is this confirmed? I heard that the bassist from GBS quit, and my first thought was "They'll probably ask Murray, at least to sub for awhile. After all, he knows the book and he even sings "Excusion around the Bay".
The part about the bassist quitting is true, so I have no trouble believing that they'd hire Murray. He's the obvious choice. Here's an article I found:
Friday, January 10, 2003 Great Big Sea's Bassist To Pursue Future Off The Road (St. John's, NL) -- After ten years of non-stop recording and touring, Great Big Sea's bassist Darrell Power has decided to conclude his affiliation with Great Big Sea. "I have chosen to pursue interests, musical and otherwise, off the road and closer to home for the foreseeable future", says Power. "It was an amicable decision and the right one for me at this time." The remaining founders of the group, Alan Doyle, Bob Hallett, and Sean McCann will continue to perform and record. A replacement bass player will be hired for live appearances. "Darrell has been a great driving force in the band and will be missed," says Doyle. "But being in Great Big Sea is an all consuming job and we respect his decision to devote more time to his family," adds McCann. Great Big Sea just completed a highly successful tour of Canada this Fall, visiting over 40 cities and performing for over 100,000 people in promotion of its fifth studio album Sea Of No Cares. The album debuted at #1 its first week of release at Canadian retail, garnering further critical acclaim and bringing Great Big Sea's total album sales to over one million units sold. The group was recently nominated for seven 2003 East Coast Music Awards (ECMA), including Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year and Group of the Year. This past year, the band has also headlined over 100 concerts and festivals in major cities in the US and Europe.
Well, when GBS starts playing again, let's hope we'll get to see Murray in a "rock" band setting again. From the pictures I saw of him playing with them in Europe, he looked like he was having an absolute blast.
I would like to revise my statement:
I am very happy for Murray, if in fact he will in the near future be touring with GBS. My primary concern as far as the frulads are concerned is always, and has always been, their happiness. But... GODDAMMIT I really *really* miss them!!! With FruCon coming up it is all coming very sharply back into focus just how much I do miss them. Thinking that I was going to get to see Murray again and talk to him and then finding out that this is not the case was frankly pretty devastating. I'm glad for him, I really am. I want him to be happy. I just really wish he could be happy in a place where I'd be able to see him every so often. You must first create an account to post.
