Spector basses

Has anyone ever used a Spector bass? I'm thinking of buying one of those over-priced basses, because *sigh* I'm in loooove!! I saw this bass and went "There is the man of my dreams." Then I was all like "Hey baby what's up?" and silence, I tried again, but was met with more silence. Stupid music stores that wont let you play their guitars unless you are going to buy them! How do you know if you want to buy it if you don't know if you like the way it sings? Here's a link to the most beautiful bass in the world... the one I'm going to buy, if at least one person says "Oh yeah, Spector, great company."

Oh.. that was so very simple.. why didn't I think to do that? I decided to go to M6K in Olympia to see if they have the bass I want, or at least a spector bass, unlike jerk-head here at the local music shop Music 6,000 will let you try their instruments. But I may go back to Mr. McPerfect and pretend I'm going to buy the bass and then not. Why? Why not.

I haven't used one, but Murray was using one for the last couple years Fruvous was touring before the hiatus and it sounded great (at least to me). Hope that helps a little :)

as a bass player, it really is a matter of personal taste. if you put a spector in your hands and it feels like trying to pull teeth with a wet noodle, then the bass is probably not for you. however, if you lay hands upon the instrument and it practically plays itself at the deft touch of your fingers, then you have found your dream.

the best way to find out which bass is for you? try them. all. spectors may be great for you, they may be difficult to play on. the only way you'll know is if you try many different makes and models.

kinda like shopping for cars, come to think of it ...

yeah, I'm with George. the machine has to fit the mad man/woman, and if it's a good fit, you know it!

Three of my former 11 bass players have spectors and swear by them. One has a 4 string, one had a five, and our first bass player had a Spector 6 string...nummy!
I call them "the planks" since they weigh a TON and are hard on the back, so for that reason, you don't see many women play them, but the quality of the wood makes for a great sound in the hands of a master. so... it is VERY important that you lie to the clerk and play it first! heh!

I have noticed one thing that makes me laugh though. Many of the Spector basses I have seen that have been around for a while have changed colour, or the paint has lightened. Not sure why this happens, but it's an observation I have made!

I did it, I went in acting like I would buy it, and he took it down and handed it to me... I almost dropped it, it was heavier than I'd expected. Once I got all set though.. *ahh!* that's my guitar. I told the guy.. "oh, this is a bit heavier than I want, soory I don't want it." He gave me a dirty look and hung it back up. Yay for me!
