The best part of having your own company is being able to make up your own hours. I tend to start around 8 and work until 6, with a few breaks during the day, and a little bit of support during the evening. Weekends are mostly free.

When I was with Y!, I'd get up and head to work around 5 to beat the traffic, and work until the mid-afternoon. I got used to that, and really enjoyed it.

normal day hours... this summer, 9-4:30.  last summer, 10-6...  stuffs like that.

I'm currently down for monday - thursday, 5-9pm.
I like it :)

I like my job because while I tend to work a standard day shift, I can move my hours around within reason. Pretty much if I'm in the office 10-4, I can vary when I come in or go home. And given that I'm wear a pager, I get flex time to make up for those episodes of getting paged at 2am in the morning.

"getting paged at 2am in the morning"

As opposed to 2am at night?

;)
Annika Back · 21 years, 1 month ago
Or 2am in the afternoon!
Starfox Back · 21 years, 1 month ago
Well, depending on your perspective, 2am is either night, or morning. In college, 2am for me was definitely night as I went to bed after 2am. Now, in my old age, 2am is most surely morning.

By a TMBG song that's actually a commercial:

oO We work the day shift and, we work the night shift and, we work the graveyard shift! Oo

.oO 24 - 7 you know I can count on you, 24 -7 you're going through what I've gone through Oo. I've been taping that show for my younger brothers since it started.

I don't have a job. I worked at my beautiful, wonderful, utopian cheap theater, but it closed. Thanks for bringing that up, thank you very much.

i don't have a job right now, but when i was working at petsmart i used to love working a 7-4 shift. the down side was that you had to get up at 6am, but it meant that the first two hours were customer-free and they went really quickly because you got to clean out all the animals and pet them! yay! *dance* and then when you finished at 4, you had the rest of the afternoon to do whatever you liked. :)

what i really love is having a completely different routine every day. like being an actor on a film set would be perfect for me because every day has different hours and different content and scenery. i love a varied week. unfortunately, i can't act for shit. oops. :D

Well, while most days I do work a 9-5 day, I PREFER to come in a little bit later and leave a bit later.  On days when I run groups or other evening activities for my program...I tend to work from 11AM-8 PM.  I like to sleep in just a little bit and also not have to deal with all those other people who ride the subway during rush hours. The lack of subway rage really makes a difference in my day. :).

Don't have a job but when I do if you count studying as working I will e going nearly 24/7.  Oh well just a little partying inbetweeen, just a little.....
Misch · 21 years, 1 month ago
As for me, I work on a "compressed schedule". I work 9 hours a day, 4 days in one week, then 8 hours on the Friday. I work 9 hours a day for 4 days the next week, then take the Friday off.

I like the schedule. Give me some flexibility, and some nice long weekends. :-)
beth-pseudocanuck! Back · 21 years, 1 month ago

a lot of companies are going to such "alternate friday" schedules...my dad has one...he loves it. it's great, because it actually ends up saving the companies MUCHO money in facilities costs. no cafeteria, limited maintenance staff on the off friday, etc. i dig. :)

as for me, i'll be on a second shift when i finally start my job in a couple weeks--3pm-9pm. not too bad. but not too great when you figure i have to be up early for morning classes anyway. oh well. it's money.

Personally, I just love having a week day off every week. I work sunday thru thursday.

It's awesome to have all day while everyone else is at work on Friday to get stuff done without lines and traffic. :)

Misch Back · 21 years, 1 month ago
I saw a news report over the weekend that some companies are shifting to 4 10 hour days a week, and taking every friday off.

Interesting.
nate... Back · 21 years, 1 month ago
Yeah, we have 4 by 10 shifts here.
Shelly · 21 years, 1 month ago
welllllll....my -old- hours are kinda betwixt these shifts; 11:30am-8pm....but -now- that i'm in the callbacks dept, i'm 9:30-6...which i like...

which of COURSE means that when we're done with callbacks, they'll switch me back.

sholley's law................. :P
