Discussion: Are you a hippie or a geek?

oh but you're only an episode of star trek away...

really - that's all. Muahahahahaha.
John J. Ryan · 22 years ago
I'm close enough to that choice that I HAD to put that. Just replace Chris with John and that's me. :)
Joy- new picture! · 22 years ago
Hmm. A theatre major, so a hippie. But then there's Cognitive Science, that's a geek. Likes String Cheese Incident, Really a hippie, likes X- Files and Star Trek, really a geek. *sigh* I'll just revel in my bothness.
Josh Woodward Back · 22 years ago
oh no, i like SCI too. but i fall so completely under the geek category. now what do i do?
A girl named Becca · 22 years ago
I mean, I certainly have some geek-like traits, but I would never claim to be a full-fledged geek, as that would be an insult to those who really are. But I really *do* think "dork" should be an option, because otherwise I have to say "neither," and then it's like, "well what are you doing on FHDC?!" *Sigh...
John J. Ryan Back · 22 years ago
Dork is a seperate category I think, perhaps that's a poll for another day.
It's a girl! Back · 22 years ago
Yeah and what about freaks and weirdos?
Jan Klump Back · 22 years ago
I'd have been comfortable with the dork category. I'm not a full-fledged geek either, but it came the closest.
Chris "Moz" Moesel · 22 years ago
... And I laughed a billion times... I think I remember (years ago) discovering that the fruvous community had several ex-music-major Chris's who now worked with computers. Me? I was a music ed major, in voice. Switched to computer science. Now developing Java applications for the MITRE Corporation. How strange...
John J. Ryan Back · 22 years ago
I'm in the same boat as you. Except I stuck with the major and got my degree. Now I'm not using it except in broadening my musical horizons.

There is a correlation between music and computers. It's NOT uncommon.
Bruce Rose Back · 22 years ago
Yeah...the correlation is that you can't make sense of either, unless you start young.

I started computers at 8, but music (playing) at 27. Music's harder.
John J. Ryan Back · 22 years ago
I was doing BASIC programming on my Texas Instruments (Remember those?) when I was 10. I first picked up a violin at 8.
Chris "Moz" Moesel Back · 22 years ago
Sure it's not uncommon to have correlations between music and computers, but then throw in (a) named Chris, and (b) who are fruheads, and you've narrowed it down quite a bit.

what are the determining factors for each query of this collection of factual information in a surveyical format? The omission of several aformentioned categorizatioinal queries such as 'dork' have led this surveyical quotation to several unprecedented forms of incomprhensicompatibly injustificational bias. *snort*

"Good evening hippies and geeks! If you don't fall into one of those categories, then you're far too cool to be here." - Jian, 2/11/98
A girl named Becca Back · 22 years ago
Aaahhhh....it makes so much more sense now. See? As I said before - I felt obliged to choose "neither," but then it was like "well, what am I doing using this site, then?" :P
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 22 years ago
I've always called myself a hippie nerd. A hippie geek is close enough.
Agent Scully · 22 years ago
Sorry, I'm a chris and was a music minor who is now going to school for computer security. Yup, that's me! :o
J · 21 years, 10 months ago
hmm i have been accused of being a yuppie latley
but i think i may be a geek to
what does it matter anyway as long as your not a hippie
