Discussion: What's your favorite Britney Spears album?
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 19 years ago
OK so when do we march on Josh's house?
K-Lyn Back · 19 years ago
I have my pitchfork...let's go!
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
I bent my spade!
nate... Back · 19 years ago
"I bent my wookie."

Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
Yes, exactly. :)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
I never remember, does the pitchfork go to the left or right of the salad fork?
*joolee* · 19 years ago
And fruhead.com has hit an all time low...
Nik Chaikin Back · 19 years ago
whyats the sound of one barrel being scraped?
Phoenix Back · 19 years ago
I love your icon ;-)
*joolee* Back · 19 years ago
And I luuuuuuuuuuv trees!
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
seconds that emotion. that icon rocks.
hkath · 19 years ago
I think you misspelled something in your poll there, Josh. I knew you were being ironical by the lack of apostrophe in "You're". Or better yet make it "ur". Then you'll fool us for sure.
Kat Kunz · 19 years ago
...seriously? shouldn't we be discussing whether hilary duff or lindsay lohan had the better debut CD? britney is *so* five years ago.
goovie is married! Back · 19 years ago
hilary or lindsay? tough call. lindsay has a stronger voice, but she's so skankified that i almost want to say hilary out of spite, never mind her thin warbly little voice.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
What happened to my brilliant post here wHeRE i tYPeD LikED tHiS?

Oh well, it is lost in cyberspace now. Just for the record Hilary all the way! Good thing I never actually listened to either one of them. I've heard them, just not listened.

Wait a sec. Hilary did a campaign concert for Bush? I might have to reconsider. Anyone know Lindsay's politics?
trunger is counting... Back · 19 years ago
i'd have to give it to hilary to my chagrin only because lidnsay looks better as a red head...i <3 red heads...
ChrisChin is Getting Old · 19 years ago
is josh trying to send some sort of message?
nate... Back · 19 years ago
actually, I hate to bring this up... but... he's a big fan of her material.

I mean, I guess I can respect it, even though I don't agree...... he has this weird obsession with it, which I don't get... but hey, to each his own, right?

Sara Woodward Back · 19 years ago
umm, well, i know he's amused by it and has played snippets of something i think she did complete with heavy doses of sarcasm thrown in there... maybe i'm missing something, but *shrugs*

speaking of which, does she actually have material that she writes, or does she just perform? do any of them write? play instruments? anything?
Annika Back · 19 years ago
As far as I've heard she doesn't write or play, she just sings and shakes her ass.
nate... Back · 19 years ago
ohhh... he... hasn't TOLD you about this side of his personality.

Umm...
hrm.
*uncomfortable*

Nevermind.

Josh Woodward Back · 19 years ago
Oh, thanks Nate! Now I've been outed and she'll never talk to me again.

My loneliness is killing me..
nate... Back · 19 years ago
Sorry man... I just... I figured she knew.... ya know, married and all.

:(

Sara Woodward Back · 19 years ago
maybe i'm in denial... being married to Josh, I happen to like denial quite a bit. ;-)
nate... · 19 years ago
For the first time, I officially refuse to vote on a poll.

:)
Nik Chaikin Back · 19 years ago
Ditto
Starfox Back · 19 years ago
Indeed.

What's the poll for? Deciding which music to continue torturing the prisoners at Gitmo with? In that case, all of the above does nicely.
*joolee* Back · 19 years ago
Hahah, true that brotha!
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
I know it is so hard to choose just one. And where are the imports?

I voted to get the poll off my front page.
Jºnªthªn · 19 years ago
Where's the "There are few people in the world that inspire loathing in me more than Britney... even the spelling of her name is horrible. I hope that punk ass loser husband divorces her and takes all her money and spends it on dope & hookers. I hope she's in labor for 72 hours, and they run out of painkillers. I hope I never have to turn on the TV and have to hear her talentless, overdubbed, overproduced dribble again."

Whew, that's a big button...
nate... Back · 19 years ago
wow, so you clearly CARE about the subject.

That in and of itself is frightening. :)

Jºnªthªn Back · 19 years ago
I'm afraid that living with someone who HAD to watch "Chaotic" has left me with irreversible damage. I realize that it's the same impulse that makes you crane your neck at a car crash, but still...
goovie is married! Back · 19 years ago
i dunno. i think watching britney's evolution (de-evolution?) from teen pop princess to pure white trash has been really amusing in a train wreck with clowns sort of way.
Bender Back · 19 years ago
I think it was an arc. White trash --> Pop Princess --> White Trash.

Let the circle be unbroken.
Talcott · 19 years ago
I suppose I would have to vote for Oops!... I Did It Again. The subtle interplay of post-modern irony, layered with deconstructionist melodies brought her more subtle structural tendencies to the forefront.
...Baby One More Time was a close second, if only for the neo-romantic ballad "Born To Make You Happy". The instrumental immaturity lends a texture to the album not found in her later material.
Britney was an interesting experiment, and I can appreciate it on that level. While it's not an album I would listen to on a daily basis, the linguistic experimentation does provide a number of interesting moments. The constant code switching of "'m A Slave 4 U" highlights her inner struggle with both success and her desire to stay pure in a corrupted world.
I'm not a huge fan of In The Zone, but I think that it's set her back in the right direction. "Me Against the Music" is yet another post-modern song. It's not as strong as her earlier work, but then few things are. The most interesting track on the album is "Touch of My Hand", in which she sets a number of Ezra Pound's "Cantos" to music, blending them into completely new creations.
sheryls Back · 19 years ago
omg, 'cott, you just made my day :P
Talcott Back · 19 years ago
Well, someone had to defend Mrs. Spears' lyrical genius. :-)
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago

I find it sad that as soon as I read "lyrical genius" my brain exploded with .oO I'm the lyrical Jesse James! Oo. And that's it. I can't even remember what rap song it's from.

Edit: Ah, looked it up. Snap! The Power. :) Ahhh, my early years.

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
*grin*
Bruce Rose Back · 19 years ago

I have to agree, although after Oops, I didn't hear anything but the singles. I guess we all outgrow artists eventually. I'd like to hear your opinion of "Email My Heart" from the first album... you can frum that to me, if you'd rather.

Dan · 19 years ago
Ooops i did it again was my first cd i ever bought!
sheryls Back · 19 years ago
o.O for what, the photos in the liner?
Dan Back · 19 years ago

No, for the music. But the photos were a big plus. This was in the days where I used to listen to those crap top 40 radio stations.

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
But the photos were a big plus.

heehee....dan.

and yeah..those were the days. i'm trying to think...i think the first cd i bought was linkin park. meteora i think.
sheryls Back · 19 years ago

i like linkin park. a lot.

my first cd was Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians, Shooting Rubber Bands at the Stars :D

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
i like linkin park. a lot.

mmm...linkin park. i *still* like them. they rock. *switches playlist*
Dan Back · 19 years ago

I loved all those linkin park cds u let me borrow. Linkin park was my first danband. If you know what I mean.

The first music thing i bought was a spice girls tape, then the britney spears cd, that was when i didnt buy any music, then I jumped into the bandwagon. And caroline, i just got a copy of monkey business if you want that (borrowed).

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
spice girls tape

see, i never understood the allure of the spice girls. i mean, little second-grade caroline would be in the car with...i think it was olivia, and she had the cd and she was all singing along and whatnot. i just didn't get it. still don't.
and eeew david beckham and the spice girl. i forget which one. sporty? pssht. then leaving man u for real madrid or whatever. loser. *ends tangent*
Dan Back · 19 years ago

I don't know their names or boyfriends or whatever, i just was little second-grade dan singing along. "if you wanna be my luvva..."

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
I don't know their names or boyfriends or whatever,

not boyfriend....husband. *shudder*
Dan Back · 19 years ago

then leaving man u for real madrid or whatever

what does that mean? refrase it.

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
David Beckham left the soccer team Manchester United for another team, which as I recall was Real Madrid. Aaaand...he's skilled. And Manchester United's my favorite team. So...yeah.
Dan Back · 19 years ago
All I know about him is that he was in that amazingly great movie. Bend it like beckham. It's a must-see. Not really in it, only for a couple seconds.
nate... Back · 19 years ago
yeah, I didn't find out until well after seeing it that he wasn't a fictional character.
:D

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
*sends shame at nate*

you should know amazing soccer players. old people have to know everything. duh.
nate... Back · 19 years ago
yeah... I know absolutely nothing when it comes to sports.

They've never held any interest for me.
:)

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
i only know soccer. anything else- football, baseball, etc....i am clueless.
nate... Back · 19 years ago
well, I know football's the thing where if you get a basket, it's a homerun and you get to kick the goalie......

Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
no, that's tennis.
*joolee* Back · 19 years ago
hahah, you're old!!
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
oooo....i love that movie. but before i read your whole answer i was like "what is he smoking? beckham only showed up for a second!"
good movie though.
Jºnªthªn Back · 19 years ago
Posh. D'oh - I've said too much!
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
Posh

oh lord....that's even worse. *gags*
Andrea Krause · 19 years ago
It's interesting that we usually have 60-100 votes in a poll. And this one has 20. I don't know if part of that's a product of folks who have not logged in yet, or if so many of us are boycotting. :)
nate... Back · 19 years ago
my guess is boycotting.
I mean, it IS annoying to have it on my main page... but... not annoying enough to make me vote.
lawrence Back · 19 years ago
Yeah, same here. I wish I could at least make it go away. :)
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years ago
do the "edit front page" dealie and trash the poll. at least until a new one. that's what i did. :D
lawrence Back · 19 years ago
Hrm. Perhaps that's Josh's motivation. Make us all remove the poll from the front page because it's Annoying, and then when no one even knows a new poll is there any more, he can remove the feature entirely, since we're all clearly out of ideas. (What was wrong with mine, Josh?! :)
meh · 19 years ago
I'm into Britney Spears's early work - before she sold out. So her macaroni art, mostly.

I... am sure I have somewhere else to be and something else to be doing just now.
