The President's iPod

   Discussion: The President's iPod
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 19 years, 2 months ago
There is an article in the New York Times listing some songs on President Bush's iPod.
  • John Fogerty, "Centerfield"
  • Van Morrison, "New Biography," "Brown Eyed Girl"
  • John Hiatt, "Circle Back"
  • Alan Jackson
  • George Jones
  • Alejandro Escovedo, "Castanets"
  • Joni Mitchell, "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care"
  • The Gourds, "El Paso"
  • Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, "Swinging From the Chains of Love"
  • Stevie Ray Vaughan, "The House is Rockin' "
  • James McMurtry, "Valley Road"
  • The Thrills, "Say It Ain't So" The Knack, "My Sharona"
I have to admit I'm impressed. He shows some good taste.

I had El Paso earwormed the other day. He's probably had it earwormed, too.

My brain needs purging.

Has anyone else noticed that you never see Leah and George W. Bush together in the same room? I wonder...
shoebox Back · 19 years, 2 months ago

i too feel the need to get a new brain. this one has shared songs with a mass murderer, and must therefore die. aaah.

there should be a law against it, dude.

Great.
Now I'll never get the mental image of Bush dancing with the white ear buds.

(and, um, wow. there are some good songs there)

The question is, how many of those songs does he own legally and how many did he download off the internet? ;o)
lawrence Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
ooooh, it could be iPodgate!
Brian Dinsky Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
and what makes you think Dell Support is going to teach Dubya how to use Kazaa? I doubt they would even be able to understand each other on the telephone.

GOD, i feel the need to put a string of forty curses into one sentence!

WHY DOES IT MATTER?! you people seem to actually care, make a big deal about what he had on his ipod. i saw an article with people actually saying "if he listens to this hecant be a good conservative" and the such. it doesnt matter at all. its just a media stunt, like the terry shiavo case. do you think it was good she was made into a media circus?

dirty life & times Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
i think gordon posted it because this is a music-type website, not because he's invested in what bush listens to. at least, i hope so.

i, officially, couldn't care less.
hkath Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
... okay.
renita Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
wow. you inspired in me the need to string together forty curses.

considering you were respondin to the post that simply stated "doods, look what bush has on his ipod--there's some good stuff" it certainly seems as though you are the one making the big deal. hmm?

as someone else pointed out, this is a website primarily frequented by music enthusiasts. that being a bit of music news, i would say it's well placed.

also. what bad taste you have just shown. how can you show derision for the media circus that was the terry shiavo case while at the same time equating it to an ipod track list article?

you have just promoted and added to the media circus and the abuse of her situation. congratulations!

While I agree with most of what you said I have to make one strong objection. I would never say "doods!" I wouldn't even say "dudes." :-)

Talcott Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
what about "|>00|>Z!"?

renita Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
okay fair enough... but i'm not gonna change it, because it's something you should say more often ;->

*hug*

Bush has Blackie and the Rodeo Kings on his iPod?? I don't know if Fearing will laugh or be horrified... ;)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
I knew you'd appreciate that.
I can see the bunny Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
I don't know what to be more disturbed about - that Bush has good taste in music or that he's walking around listening to music by friends of mine....

I think my brain is going to implode.
Nik Chaikin Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
He doesn't have good taste. Some of the songs were selected by his media strategist for the '04 campaign,"oh, he listens to my music, he can't be all bad.".
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
I was thinking that but then realized, this isn't music that is going to look good to most people. Sure it looks good to us but it has a very small constituency. Not only that, a constituency that votes very strongly democratic. As Christine Lavin says, "Republicans don't go to folk concerts, too many big words."
I can see the bunny Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
Some may have been picked by a media strategist. But then again maybe he's in the residence right now illegally downloading Blackie tunes from the internet....
I can see the bunny · 19 years, 2 months ago
From an email from Fearing I got today...

it's funny, I've done two interviews about this today and everybody seems to think that I should be upset by this... I say - are you kidding? I want all people to hear my music, not just certain people. Also if it's true that there's no such thing as bad press, then the front page of the National Post is pretty good for a record that's two years old and a band that's "on hiatus". Everybody's talkin' about Blackie and The Rodeo Kings... "
I can see the bunny Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
oh...and apparently with Fearing going on tour in the UK he know hopes to influence Tony Blair's iPod. :)
I can see the bunny · 19 years, 2 months ago
It's remarkable how many interviews Blackie is getting off of this iPod thing. Check it out...

Rodeo King interviews

My favourite quote is from Tom Wilson when he says to Dose Magazine, "I bet the fucker downloaded it. I bet he didn't buy it." :-)
Samantha · 19 years, 2 months ago
well, apparently not only do I disagree with Bush's political views, but his taste in music too... *cringes*
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
Really? You don't like any of the artists on his list? As much as I don't like his politics I like pretty much everyone on his iPod. I'm not really familiar with the Gourds or Alan Jackson.
hkath Back · 19 years, 2 months ago
Wait a second... didn't the Gourds do that awesome bluegrass cover of Gin and Juice which is so often mistakenly attributed to Phish???

Hee :D
