Awesome! Thanks for putting this up John. Is it next July yet? *hopes* *sigh*

(and apologies to my crappy ADSL with very low upload bandwidth).

Subject: Recording Crew Needed at Falcon Ridge

[ I am resending this because it looks like it only went to the Nook
for some reason. If you are a veteran tapehead or you are good a home
recording or CD production we could really use you on the crew. tmn ]

I want to give the Nook and Dar-list first crack at this because you
are faithful die-hard members of the FRFF "family" and some of you are
even smart and stuff. Don't worry, I don't mean you specifically,
it's the other fellow. You're the good looking one.

This year we're going to do something a little different with the
recording crew: we're going to record, master and sell "instant CD's"
of each mainstage set, to be placed on sale in the merch tent within
an hour or so. I just finished setting this up and running it for two
weeks at Kerrville and it worked great, we sold a bunch of CD's and
we'll sell even more this weekend. They're going to eat it up like
hotcakes at Falcon Ridge too.

The thing about this is it takes more people to pull it off. You
basically need a crew of five or six at all times: a recordist, one or
two editors making masters, a label composer/printer, a duplicator
jockey, and a 'gofer' getting set lists, permissions, QA'ing new discs
etc. Each job is interesting in its own way; you also spend time
training others.

So I'm calling for volunteers. You would work a minimum of three
shifts over the four days of music - we'll be depending on you, so you
gotta show up on time and sober. In exchange, you're comped into the
Festival, you get all-access, you can eat at the mess tent, etc. And
I'll be making up some silly T-shirt that you can have.

Skills needed: good ears (almost every job involves listening), good
attention to detail, a Chearful Disposition without the Cholerick
Humour. Extra bonus for: ability to run a sound board and multitrack
rig, experience with Cool Edit Pro (a/k/a Audition) or similar wave
editors, handiness with Photoshop/Publisher, experience producing hand
labeled CD's en masse.

I guarantee you this will make it a different Falcon Ridge than you've
ever experienced! And you'll take serious satisfaction in your crew
turning out a product that people love.

If you're interested, email me off-Nook at [email protected] -
include which of those skills you gots, and give me a phone number
where I can reach you.

neither do I apparently. I've tried just taking a txt file and renaming that, but it doesn't seem to work. My guess is that the nfo feature on the tracker isn't working right. Just copying and pasting the txt file where ever you post about the torrent is probably the best thing to do for the time being. Thanks Paul

I think I still have the files to help seed. *goes to test*

EDIT: Done. One more to help out.

nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Yeah, I'm seeding too.
iPauley Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
It figures. I've had that task sitting in BitComet for months with no one downloading it, so I removed it. NOW people want it again. :-P

(just kiddin', no hard feelings. ;))

Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I'm now seeding. Yay fast connection!!!
Paul · 19 years, 3 months ago
Thanks Dan for posting it. I want to convert it to something that can be played on a cd player and burn it to a cd any suggestions how to do that?
Paul · 19 years, 3 months ago
actually thanks to my technically savvy daughter I have burned it to a cd!
100% dainty! · 19 years, 3 months ago
MORE SEEDERS! MORE LEECHERS! Go fast! Beat drums! Wo-man! Wo-man!!

Translation: If you want this torrent, you should leech it. If you already have it, canyou seed it so little Lauren can get it? ;)
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I'm still seeding. :)

caroline: tired. · 19 years, 3 months ago
no one's seeding anymore...i'm left hanging... :(
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
really?
I KNOW I left it seeding at home.... maybe my connection is down.

I'll check when I get out of work.

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
now i have one peer...maybe it's you, maybe another kind soul. but it's good now. yay! :)
Paul · 19 years, 3 months ago
Too bad they didn't get David Brombergs performance for the cd. I missed it I had to work but my wife told me he was great.
Paul Back · 19 years, 3 months ago

I didn't mean to complain honest. It's a great collection. I was listening to it today while I was driving for work and with the nice weather it was almost as good as being there! Thanks for recording it.

How does a hand held tape radio recorder work? How will you be able to tape both the main and workshop stages at the same time? What did you use last year?

Thanks to you and Dan for taping and seeding it!

Paul

Misch Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Dan neither taped it nor seeded it.

Check the top of the thread, it was John J. Ryan who taped it and earlier seeded it. Since people requested it (and since Bargainville.org is offfline), I reseeded it on Dan Godwins tracker.
dgodwin Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Yeah.. I just seed everything else here..
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
That's because all the other tapers are slackers and jerks.

:D
dgodwin Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
damn straight. I'd be willing to transfer and back up DATs to DVD for any fruvous taper if they were willing to lend me their masters. I'll be seeding more Fruvous soon from Greg's tapes. I'm just making sure I have the right source info/taper info/etc.
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I'm definitely willing to figure something out with you....

When this torrent thing started I was unemployed, so I had tons of time to make and put them up..... now, not so much... hence my lack of participation beyond being a seeder.

Drop me a frum.... perhaps we can figure something out.

Paul Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Ok he didn't but it was on his website so...thanks all around- kind of ridiculous to get hostile reactions for thanking people
Misch Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Oops. Sorry. Didn't mean to sound hostile.
John J. Ryan Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
What Paul said. I taped it on a handheld recorder, because I can't afford big rigs. What I like to think is helpful is to take all of that source material (Last two years it came out to 24 hours each) and narrow it down to 3 CDs worth of the best stuff. I try not to repeat songs from the previous year, and try to include as much cross-performing (special guests on certain songs or group sings) as possible.

I tape both the main stage and the workshop stage depending on which stage I can be at. I thought about taping the "Budgiedome Stage" but shied away for reasons I don't quite know myself. I did discover the power of Falcon Ridge Radio last year which allowed me to tape Erin McKeown, John Gorka, and Lowen & Navarro without actually being there. This coming year, I'll be bringing a handheld radio tape recorder to go along with my normal one, so I can always be taping the main stage, and tape the workshop stage at the same time. Should be interesting.

But the part I take pride in is he editing process, making the compilation a great one. I'm gald all of you enjoy it, it makes me happy, and makes me want to do better next year. If anyone is taping Falcon Ridge with great rigs next eyar, keep in touch with me, and we could also combine our forces to make the compilation even better.

What's the thought on recording on mp3 players?
John J. Ryan · 19 years ago

I just read from the Edhead list that Grassy Hill Radio, the on-line radio station that plays a lot of Falcon Ridge friendly artists and cuts from previous Falcon Ridges, have decided to do something new this year. They will be taping every mainstage set, and then making it available for purchase on CD. On the spot. One hour later. Right there in the merch tent.

Therefore, I will not be taping mainstage this year as a result of me not wanting to step on their toes. I had a blast maing the compilations though, and in a way it is sad for me to see them end, because I enjoyed make CD sets that truly were the highlights of the festival. Now in order to do that, you'd have to buy ALL of the mainstage CDs and make your own best of compilation which would set you back hundreds of $$$.

On the bright side, at least Grassy Hill is making this very easy, so if you want the CD of the set you just watched, NO PROBLEM. And I may still tape the workshop stage since that will not be taped by Grassy Hill, and make a single CD compilation called "Best of FRFF Workshop stage 2005". Some of the best FRFF memories come from the workshop stage as many people will attest to.

Paul Back · 19 years ago
I have listened to your recording of last years fest many times and really enjoyed it. So thanks again for recording it. Recording the workshop stage sounds like a great idea. Great shows there as well
Paul Back · 19 years ago
