Never seen a poll so quickly reflect the wall convo. Go Josh. :)

I'm a Law & Order (original) addict, and I just wanted to see which one I should start TiVoing next. So chatter away. :)

Original is the best, though I am getting tired of seeing every single show "ripped from the headlines".

SVU I like a lot as well. I think they have good characters and I love the ADA chick.

CI is all right but it's my least favorite. It strays from the franchise formula. Audience is let in on too much, Cop is too much of a one-man-show, barely any court stuff. It's more of an old-skool whodunit show packaged as L&O and doesn't work as well, IMO.

I'd love to see them do a defense attorney show instead. I love the Practice, but it'd be nice to have a show driven more by plots than characters.

Yeah, the original L&O is still the best but SVU is a close second in my books. :)

Right now it is Criminal Intent. The earlier original series were the best. I might still like them best if I hadn't been watching it for ten years. CI still has novelty value.

The lead lady is a real knockout ... shetakes your breath away.

I really am tired of lawyers who sit there doing nothing while the police interrogate their clients in these shows. The other day a lawyer was letting the police interrogate a young kid who was a murderer - there was nothing to be gained from letting the police talk to the kid, and no defense lawyer in his right mind would ever let it happen. I'd kinda like to see someone get a way with something on these shows without then being killed by a victim, a car crash, a vigilante, or whatever.
Josh Woodward Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Yeah, I guess nobody ever gets away with anything on these. Rarely, at least. I'd also like there to be more non-murder things. The intro is always somebody discovering a dead body. Petty crimes might be fun sometimes. Or at least a variety.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Well I think that would fall under a new show, because I know the detectives involved in the orignal L&O are homicide specifically, and it all goes from there.

And to be fair, there's the occasional fraud charge, or some such, when they have to pull an Al Capone and stick someone on a charge they can prove, rather than one they might otherwise want.

Anyone watch this? Reminds me of Columbo.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

I adore Monk. One of my favorite shows. I also loved Columbo back in the day.

I know I objected to CI on the grounds that it was too much like a Monk or a Columbo but that's not to say it's not a formula I like, I just think it goes really badly with the L&O franchise.

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
I love Monk and always say that it is the closest thing to Columbo.

Did anyone notice that the star, Tony Shalub (sp?) won an emmy for best performance in a comedy? I love him and would give him an emmy but Monk is not a comedy.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

It's a show hard to categorize. I wouldn't call it a drama either, with all the funnies it gives me. At any rate, I'm wicked happy he got the emmy because he deserved it.

sheryls Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
hee - and on a 6 degrees note, both he and Vincent D'Onofrio (from L&O:CI) were in Men In Black! :D
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Yup, and both in much uglier states. :)

SVU kind of bothers me because it's quite often a rape case - i don't know, i just really dont like watching movies/tvshows about rape. not that i think the whole world needs to be happy-cheery all the time, i just have issues with it. *shrug*

i love CI and the original - the're like crack. if several are on in a row, you'll sit there and watch all of them. you have no choice. you have no chance to survive make your time. ha ha ha.

My husband hates when I watch stuff like that because then he feels that it "kills the mood"

Uh-huh. Try getting a TiVo and seasonpassing the TNT repeats. Two or three a day stack up during the week, and then the weekend rolls around...

you're lucky. thanks to baseball, we've been angel-less over here.
mainly we watch family guy and buffy dvds.
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 20 years, 9 months ago
The end of SVU could never have worked. The detectives were there they'd have known that the ADA wasn't dead, you can't fake that.

CI is a great show, original is OK, and I absolutely hate SVU.
