haylee

   Discussion: haylee

Many hugs offered. I know the feeling. I went through a lot of vet bills and hassle with my (now deceased) cat Dirk. It was making me go broke but there was just no way I could *not* help my Dirk. He was like a child to me.

*hugs*

i'm the one in my family that usually has to make the 'should the animal be maintained' decisions. ignore the financials for a second. is your dog living a good life? would haylee be living a good life eating the special food for the rest of her life? this is a purely quality-of-life question.

i tend to really get upset at the thought that my animals are in pain, that's my hot button. if i thought that i couldn't completely eliminate haylee's pain then i'd have her put down. that's my view of the animal world.

so then look at the financials. can you feed yourself? can you house yourself? can you, and should you, support an animal at direct cost to yourself (i.e. food, housing, drugs). you're not talking about an animal that you've had for a year and has 10+ to go, it doesn't sound like your talking about an animal with 5 and 5 either.

i dunno, i'm a cruel heartless bastard and excuse me for my opinion, but i'd have to go with the human over the animal.

you've gotta take care of yourself first, hon. look at it this way, if you get really sick, then there's NO way you can take care of haylee. that being said, i would take care of the dog. THAT being said, i don't have diabetes. so basically, i'm of no help whatsoever. *hugemondolicioushugs*

I heard about the vet visit, but not the details. I agree that financially, it will be hard... but I wouldn't give Haylee up unless you KNEW it was to a good home. But, she liked me, so I have to stick up for her. :-)

You know about our two kitties (but I'll elaborate for the other readers)... our skinny white cat has a genetic heart defect and the fat black one is athsmatic and on daily medication (it's late, so I can't tell if that's spelled right. She wheezes. a lot.) Between the two of them, the vet bills have been pretty high, especially for Pharaoh's Xrays. (on the bright side, he was stoned for the three hour ride home... and his bald pink armpits were SOOOOOO cute)
