How about "a fairly clean, but very dorm-like college dorm room"?

:)

nate... · 21 years, 5 months ago

This was obviously not written by a geek.

:D
Other... my bedroom is primarily a place for computers and electronics.... and.. oh, a bed too, I guess.
Everything else isn't important.

Back · 21 years, 5 months ago

(Gimpy walks around his room on the last day of College)

"good-bye chair, we've had some great times!  Good-bye wall outlet, good bye desk..good bye single light bulb hanging...(walks up to a metal bed frame pushed up against a wall, and the matress flops forward)...oh! hello..I don't think we have ever been formally introduced!"

heh!

ah! Dorm life! I remember it well

Yup, I'm with Nate here. Mine looks like a data center with a bed. :)
emilie is CRANKY · 21 years, 5 months ago

i rarely tidy. :) everything just gets randomly piled up on the floor and on shelves. as long as there's a space on the floor (or something undreakable, like a pile of papers) for me to use as a stepping-stone between door/desk or door/bed, i'm fine. :D also, i've gotten to the stage where i don't bother taking down old posters before putting new ones up, hence the reason i have a timetable over my south park posters and fruvous pics over a simpsons one :D and i hoard, which makes the situation about 10 times worse!

funnily enough i'm quite organised and as long as my mum doesn't go in there and 'tidy up' (i.e. move stuff around) i know pretty much where everything is, hehe :)

Rhi: so confused Back · 21 years, 5 months ago

this sounds exactly like my room!  except for the posters thing.  when i paint my room (every couple of years) i weed out the posters that mean nothing to me.  currently, my walls are covered in: random fruvous memorabilia from ebay, a jian poster from maplemusic, timothy goebel (ice skater!), red wings team picture after winning the stanley cup, and gordie howe's rookie picture.

Sarah Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
I have a lot of music and movie posters, band pictures, my calander and a couple paintings I did. I also have a picture frame my little cousin made for me hanging up. I get so much memrobelia from Ebay also. Sarah
Kevin - King of WiFi Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
yes, i'd also have to agree... mine kind of looks like a tornado aftermath's shrine to music. I have miles davis and the clash and gobs of posters from guitar world all over my walls. A lot of the furniture looks kind of ikea-ish, but it's never clean so it couldnt be in a catalogue, and i have instruments everywhere
goovie is married! · 21 years, 5 months ago
But it's a nice mess, full of books and CDs and lots of blankets.
sheryls · 21 years, 5 months ago

erk and i's bedroom has no walking room whatsoever - there's clothes where there is floorspace, and where there's not clothes, there's furniture.

although, we just got a new standing closet to replace the broken dresser, so there's a bit more room on the entrance-side of the room.

Talcott Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
If you walk through your new closet, do you wind up in a magical, yet allegorical land?
sheryls Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
No. no i dont. :)
Talcott · 21 years, 5 months ago
And then there are the book shelves, and the shelves that are stacked on top of each other. My bedroom doubles as my "study" so it's somewhat cluttered, and filled with books and the computer (well, not filled with the computer. There are also plenty of toys spread about. Most of the Legos are in the living room, but a lot of the action figures have migrated into here (transformers are great to fidgit with). The floor is a bit messy, but better than most people I know. Most of my CDs are in the livingroom too, but a stack always manages to migrate in here by this CD player. The fly in, and sit around until I resort all my CDs (which happens fairly often).

Oh, there's also a bed and some stuff to wear, but those aren't quite as interesting.
Jºnªthªn · 21 years, 5 months ago
Did you see "A Boy and His Dog?"
sheryls Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
argh! i did! that's like, my uncle's favorite movie. strange, strange movie.
Jºnªthªn Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
first post-apocalyptic movie to come to mind. And Don Johnson's finest work to date. :o)
Talcott Back · 21 years, 5 months ago

Strange and post-apocalyptic?

I think I need to see this thing!

My room is a shed full of mildly interesting junk and clothes. A bunch of tiny out of date hockey posters, little pictures cut out of anywhere of Dodges and Case Internationals. I actually havea couple Case IH posters, too. And I have about a trillion books. I would really like to have more music stuff, but I can't find it, and if I can, it's too expensive.
· 21 years, 5 months ago

ok..I was having trouble.  To me, it's a normal lived in bedroom...with 2000 CDs.

I'm hope Mike will back me up on this...you can never have too many CD's, movies, DVDs...and we can put the bed in the bathroom!

heh!

My room looks like a tornado made it's way through a book store and a CD store and nobody cleaned up afterwards.

I'd normally say that surprisingly all the CDs ended up in order but all my DVN CDs have mysteriously dissappeared. Of course I know that Lawrence really stole them along with my bifocals.
meh · 21 years, 5 months ago

I'm the only kid's room so far?  Hmm.

I suppose that (in spite of the volume of action figures, legos, stuffed animals, and other playthings) it doesn't resemble a kid's room so much as an overgrown kids room, or an "I refuse to be a real adult" room.  But kid's room seemed like the best option.

And No, tornado aftermath wasn't a better fitting category.  I cleaned this weekend while there was nothing on TV.  So ha indeed.  It's back to the new-normal state of organized boxes and stacks of books that don't quite have homes on the bookcases.  (Besides, recurring patterns of cyclone-hit-appearance just fit in more firmly with the whole kid-room theory.  I mean, an aweful lot of kids create major living-space chaos, right?)

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
Kids room was my second choice. I can see from my computer Two large plastic dinosaurs, one with a smaller dinosaur riding it and the other with a Giles action figure riding it. I also have a gorilla, a bear, two powerpuff girl, and three groovy girls. Too bad i can't find my army men.
Talcott Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
*blink*

Ok... I just might have to move my Giles figure onto a dinosaur now...

That's what Buffy really needs: Dinosaurs!
goovie is married! Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
i was going to mention the dinosaurs if you didn't. now that i have more space (our apartment is the first floor of a house), my toys are spread out throughout the house. most of them ended up on my desk, on bookshelves, or in display cases. we do have three stuffed animals in our room -- two bears and one mooooose.
Sarah · 21 years, 5 months ago
My room before my family and I moved to Maine was an absolute disaster. We had no storage space at all. I ended up having a lot of my parents old clothes in the back of my closet. I also had toys that were piled everywhere since there was no storage place. I think my room was 12 x 12. When we moved, I got a room that was 13 x 20 at the longest spot and 13 x 17 for the rest of the room. We had TONS of storage space. I have a large closet with a big shelf... I used to have tons of boxes on those shelves until one night I woke up to this horrible crashing sound. I thought someone was breaking in. After screaming hysterically for a minute I turned on the light and saw that the shelf collapsed; it wasn't attached to the wall studs. My awesome Dad fixed the shelves and now I can use them again :-) I like taking naps though in the guest room. It has all my grandmother's old furnature and her old quilt. Before it was the guest room it was my 2nd bedroom. This was before my room was painted and my furnature was moved in. Sarah

Seeing as I live in a studio, my room most resembles a bedroom, living room, dining room, office, study, storage space, and kitty playground.

Actually, I've got no couch but two beds - one in the loft and one below it.  I'm a professional napper, you see.  The furniture is in the style of Early American mismatched crap from off the street.  I'm working on upgrading one piece at a time - I've got my eyes on a neat desk/shelving type thing.

It goes from tornado to valiant attempt at putting things away but giving up after realizing that there just isn't room for everything!

Talcott Back · 21 years, 5 months ago

Hey! My apartment is done entierly in Early American mismatched crap from off the street! Which includes the world's most comfortable couch. Of course, it's falling apart, and my rat likes to help entropy along by chewing on the stuffing, but it's a really nice couch for what I paid for it ;)

sheryls Back · 21 years, 5 months ago

Mine is Early American mismatched crap too, and we only upgrade when something breaks, and that's usually with something on clearance or something less-used.

like, for instance, my recent upgrade.

Jºnªthªn Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
for a while mine was cheapo IKEA crap , but I've managed to move up a little.
nate... Back · 21 years, 5 months ago

Well, when you've got IKEA, you have nowhere to move but up.

:D

It's like owning a Hyundai!

Drea · 21 years, 5 months ago
Usually I would answer "tornado's aftermath", but given that my landlord is trying to sell the house my apt is in, I've actually been keeping it in decent shape - it only looks lived in. (I promised the real estate agent that the apt would be in decent shape.. though she hasn't had any showings in the last couple weeks). It's not so much the books and cds as the multiple Rubbermaid containers of yarn *snicker*
Erica: movin' to Ohio!! · 21 years, 5 months ago
where was the "aftermath of a nuclear holocaust" option?
Annika · 21 years, 5 months ago

My room is small, my bed is big. To get to my bed I climb over an amp, step around a badly situated bookshelf, slide between the stereo and guitars, usually knocking over a guitar and than smashing my elbow trying to catch it, then I climb over the cabinet that makes my bass sound crappy, and slide onto my bed. On my bed is the rest of my life, my musicians porn, crossword puzzle books, the book I was trying to read before my lamp bulb burned out, and various other reading materials that I've been meaning to read since I tossed them onto the bed.

Josh Woodward Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
Musicians porn? :)

Guitar catologs, music catologs = musician's porn

It's horrible right now. But we're working. Did tons of laundry yesterday unril we ran out of detergent. Most of the bedroom will be better when the laundry is all off the floor and clean. :) We did clean the kitchen yesterday (mopped, even!) so there's progress.

I have never ever been a person who could keep things clean. I always have the best of intentions and face the after-time of ever cleaning binge with a promise to my self to be better this time and throw things out and use the hamper and do laundry every week. But in the end I break my promises to myself. And I'm with someone who's exactly like me in that regard, unfortunately.

I have never ever in my life had, for more than a week or so, a room I could navigate without stepping on crud or feeling like I was in an obstacle course.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
I beg to disagree, neater isn't better. I like the Tornado look.
sheryls Back · 21 years, 5 months ago

yeah i'm with gordon on this one - i've always loved clutter. although, i love space. wide, open space. so while i dont like to keep things tidy, i do tend to just do huge cleaning sweeps where the whole apartment is sparkling for about...3 hours. :D

then it just all goes to shit again.

so maybe i just need an obnoxously large domicile.

Jºnªthªn Back · 21 years, 5 months ago
nah, you'd fill that up with crap too.
