Bad Poetry

   Discussion: Bad Poetry
Annika · 21 years, 7 months ago
Maybe I'm the only one, but, has anyone else noticed when you're really upset, and you write poetry, it seems really good and you're very impressed with it, until the next day, at which point you realize that you've over-rhymed, and it's total crap.
I went through my notebooks last night and all my 'sad' writing just made me go "Oh God! This is really bad!" I'd post some, because it is very funny, and I read some to Casey over the phone, but it was awkward in the way that I knew it was bad, and I was laughing, but I could sense that Casey wanted to laugh, but he didn't think he should because I wrote it.
Anyone else do that? Anyone braver than me and willing to post really bad poetry?

I think you should definitely share. This thing is all about sharing, right? Besides, given the context you've provided, people know they can respond honestly. I'd post, too, but the most writing I do is with the Magnetic Poetry on my 'fridge! ...which is really fun, by the way, don't you think? ;)

I've had Magnetic Poetry (Original, French, and Shakespearean) on the fridge in my dorm room since September, but I never really got around to writing anything with it. Then right before Christmas break, I realized I should put it on my door so everyone who walks by can play with it...and my hall loves it!

And, since this definitely fits the topic of "bad poetry," here are some selections currently view-able on my door:
Untitled
you decieve thus
melancholy alas
get thee hither
I beseech you

Codpiece
codpiece

Untitled
I loathe vehemence
o'er mortal maidens
therefore I herein bestow
peasant discontent and
deliciously bawdy jest

Oh! I love those! Back when I was living with.. someone, I had a fridge covered in those. I used to put together poems about how pissed off I was at him for.. whatever. He never read them, so I guess it didn't work the way it was supposed to, no, it worked in a better way. Our friends would come by quite a bit, so our fridge became a community fridge, and they would read them, and say "Hey Billy, why did you....." Yay for break ups!

I've been trying to get up the courage to post the baaaaad poetry since I mentioned it. I don't think it's going to happen, maybe I'll find some that isn't toooo horribly bad, and I'll post that.

Isn't "bad poetry" kinda redundant?

;)
Annika Back · 21 years, 7 months ago
Hey now! There is such thing as good poetry. But just like.. something underground, you have to dig for it! Wow, that could have been something very inspiring, but, it wasn't.
Talcott Back · 21 years, 7 months ago
There's plenty of good poetry that isn't underground (at least not anymore)

William Carlos Williams
William Blake
e.e. cummings
Allen Ginsberg
John Ashbury
Brenda Hillman
Shel Silverstein

And a whole bunch more than I can't remember right now (well, and there's no reason to post a huge list at the moment...)
spyderjewlz Back · 21 years, 7 months ago
I love that you included Silverstein!!!!!

I love that you included Silverstein!!!!!

Well, he IS the only decent author in that bunch....

;)
Talcott Back · 21 years, 7 months ago
Because you've read all of 'em, right? ;)

nate... Back · 21 years, 7 months ago
well.. I was just being a wiseass... but... *looks at list*

No, I haven't read William Carlos Williams, John Ashbury or Brenda Hillman.
:)

I am the absolute queen of bad poetry. I write so much of it. I actually have an entire site full of it. I'm not gonna post the link in a public forum to be immortalized in fru-archives for all eternity, but if any of you really wanna see, I'll frum you the link :)
Annika · 21 years, 7 months ago
I was going to post some of my bad poetry today, but I left my notebook at home. I'll post it tomarrow. Unless I forget my notebook again.

This one was never finished. Shocking...

This is going no where
We need to have a talk
Lets not stay here
We'll go out for a walk
It seemed like a good idea at the time
But I've been wrong before
I've dreamed of dating Optimus Prime
But it turns out you're a bore
And if I may be so bold
Your lack of anatomical features
And metal skin leaves me cold
You sit and stare
drinking your robot beer
This is no joke
I'm not staying here

Annika Back · 20 years, 10 months ago

This... hrm.. I can't even explain it. I'm not going to, other than to say, that no, I never did really organize it, it's just random rock and roll toaster ideas clumped together.

Rock and roll toaster
Will incinerate your bread
Rock and roll toaster
Will get inside your head
All the girls and all the boys
Fear the rock and roll toasters ploys
Only good will is meant
Ancient eyes recognize
Toasters true potential

Toaster in the night
Toaster in the day
The rock and roll toaster
Will lead you all astray

The toasters not broken
But it's not workin' very well
All I want is some toasted bread
'Cause toasted bread is swell
(alt. line - Some toasted bread from hell)
